The Mayor of Los Palacios and Villafranca, Juan Manuel Valle, has urgently requested the Junta de Andalucía to repair the A-362, which will host the 17th stage of the Vuelta Ciclista a España on September 9. The stretch has potholes and sinkholes that endanger cyclists.

The Town Hall of Los Palacios and Villafranca has stepped up to ensure that the A-362 is in optimal condition before the Vuelta Ciclista a España passes through. The mayor, Juan Manuel Valle, has sent a letter to the Territorial Delegation of Development in Seville demanding a comprehensive repair of the road surface in the section that runs through the municipality.

The mayor reminds that the 17th stage of the Spanish tour, scheduled for September 9, 2026, will travel along this regional road towards Utrera. However, the current state of the pavement, with numerous potholes and sinkholes, compromises the safety of both cyclists and drivers who use it daily.

A Deterioration That Has Persisted for Years

Valle emphasizes that he has been calling on the Junta for years to dual the A-362, a key infrastructure for mobility and economic development in the region. “We have been insisting on the need to dual this road for years, but in the meantime, the surface continues to deteriorate,” laments the mayor in his letter.

The mayor points out that the Junta has recently carried out pavement improvement works only in the section corresponding to the municipality of Utrera, while that of Los Palacios and Villafranca has not received an equivalent intervention. “It is unacceptable that one side is repaired while the other is neglected,” criticizes Valle.

An Opportunity to Project the Image of the Province

The passage of the Vuelta Ciclista a España is an exceptional opportunity to showcase the image of Andalucía and the province of Seville to millions of viewers worldwide. “We cannot allow the poor condition of the road to give a bad impression or endanger the athletes,” states the mayor.

Therefore, Valle requests the Junta to undertake a comprehensive repair of the A-362 in the section that runs through Los Palacios and Villafranca before September 9, removing potholes and sinkholes and ensuring optimal safety conditions. “It is a matter of responsibility and common sense,” he concludes.

The mayor hopes that the Territorial Delegation will finally address this urgent request and take the necessary measures to ensure that a regionally owned infrastructure is maintained in a condition that reflects the importance of the event and meets the needs of the citizens who use this road daily. Thousands of residents of Los Palacios and Villafranca would benefit if the road is repaired, improving their daily road safety.

The Vuelta Ciclista a España 2026 will pass through the province of Seville on September 9. Fans will be able to follow the stage live and enjoy the sporting spectacle, provided the road is in good condition. The Town Hall of Los Palacios and Villafranca has announced that it will continue to pressure the Junta to fulfil its duty.
