The mayor of Lebrija, Pepe Barroso, and the delegate for Social Inclusion from the Junta visited the Diverocio Summer School, which serves 40 children, 20 of whom have special needs.

The Diverocio Summer School, organised by PRODE with the support of the Lebrija City Council and subsidised by the Junta de Andalucía, has launched a programme that caters to 40 boys and girls from the municipality during the summer period. The initiative takes place at the facilities of CEIP Blas Infante and offers a space adapted to the needs of the children, with an inclusive approach that ensures equal opportunities.

Of the total participants, 20 children have specific educational support needs (NEAE), including a class made up of 10 children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Additionally, the programme includes children referred by Social Services from families in situations of vulnerability or at risk of social exclusion.

Institutional Collaboration and Visits

The mayor of Lebrija, Pepe Barroso, and the territorial delegate for Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality of the Junta de Andalucía in Seville, María Luisa Cava, recently visited the centre to learn first-hand about the programme's operation. During the visit, Barroso highlighted the importance of this collaboration between administrations and social entities to ensure that no child is left behind.

For her part, Cava praised the work of PRODE and the support from the Junta for programmes that combine educational care, social inclusion, and family support, especially for those in greater vulnerability. The delegate emphasised that initiatives like Diverocio are key for family reconciliation during the summer.

Adapted Activities and Guaranteed Food

The school adapts activities to the individual needs of each child, promoting an environment based on respect, coexistence, and participation. All children receive daily breakfast, lunch, and snacks thanks to the Food Guarantee programme, ensuring a balanced diet during their stay. This resource provides significant support for many families, covering basic needs and fostering the physical and cognitive development of the children.

The project has a team of six monitors with experience and specialised training in the care and inclusion of children with disabilities, allowing for personalised intervention. Additionally, Diverocio incorporates three individuals with intellectual disabilities as part of the work team, an initiative that reflects PRODE's commitment to social and labour inclusion.

This summer school not only offers a playful and educational space but also contributes to family reconciliation, allowing parents to work during the summer months with the peace of mind that their children are in a safe and adapted environment. For families in Lebrija, especially those with children with special needs, this resource becomes a relief during the school holidays.

The initiative, which will run throughout the summer, demonstrates that collaboration between the City Council, the Junta de Andalucía, and entities like PRODE can lead to projects that make a difference in the lives of citizens. With 40 places filled, demand has been high, and the council does not rule out expanding the programme in future editions if the need continues.
