The Ministry of Social Inclusion has allocated 700,000 euros to Summer Schools in the province of Seville, benefiting 1,022 children aged between 3 and 16 in seven municipalities.
A total of 1,022 children in the province of Seville will have their daily meals guaranteed this summer thanks to the Summer Schools programme by the Junta de Andalucía, which has allocated 700,000 euros to this initiative. The project is being developed in seven municipalities in Seville: Lebrija, El Cuervo, Pilas, Las Cabezas de San Juan, Utrera, Alcalá de Guadaíra, and the capital.
An inclusive programme with places for children with special needs
The initiative, framed within the Solidarity and Food Guarantee programme, incorporates an inclusive approach with 84 places reserved for children with special educational needs, who will be attended to by specialised professionals. Activities are focused in schools located in disadvantaged areas, according to the Andalusian Regional Strategy for Cohesion and Social Inclusion (Eracis).
María Luisa Cava, territorial delegate for Social Inclusion, highlighted that the main objective is to meet the basic nutritional needs of the youth during the holidays, a period she described as “exceptional.” She also emphasised that the schools provide a space for learning and leisure for children at risk of social exclusion.
Three meals a day and educational support
The Summer Schools will take place in July and August and include a dining service that provides three daily meals for the children. Educational reinforcement, leisure, and free time activities will also be conducted, aiming to promote healthy habits and education in values. The programme seeks to combat absenteeism and early school dropout, keeping children engaged with learning during the summer.
The management is handled by non-profit private entities, in collaboration with the municipalities, which provide the facilities, and community social services, which refer families. The initiative is part of the Corresponsables Plan from the Ministry of Equality and focuses on the most vulnerable areas defined in Eracis PLUS.
For parents in the province, this news comes as a relief: their children will not only be fed but will also participate in educational and recreational activities in a safe environment. Those interested should contact their municipal social services to learn about registration deadlines, which are already open in most municipalities.
