Coria del Río Town Hall introduces drug detection wristbands at the Violet Point of the Fair to prevent chemical submission. Young people will be able to check their drinks and receive information on site.

The Coria del Río Town Hall has incorporated a new resource at the Violet Point of its Fair to prevent chemical submission: wristbands capable of detecting the presence of drugs in drinks. The measure aims to allow young people to enjoy the festivities more safely and avoid situations of loss of control caused by substances administered without consent.

The wristbands have been developed from technology arising at the Interuniversity Institute of Molecular Recognition and Technological Development in Valencia. They incorporate chemical sensors that react with a colour change upon contact with substances used in cases of chemical submission, such as GHB and amine drugs like ketamine, burundanga, or MDMA.

The operation is simple: just deposit a small sample of the drink on the detection areas of the wristband and check for a colour change. The device is reusable throughout the night to verify different drinks, as long as it has not been activated previously by the presence of the substances it detects.

Those who need these wristbands can collect them at the Violet Point of the Coria del Río Fair, where they will also receive information on their use. The council reminds that the tool is complementary to prudence and self-protection measures, and that in any situation of risk, harassment, or possible chemical submission, help should be sought from the available care and security services at the venue.

"Fun and safety must go hand in hand," states the municipal campaign, which insists that "safe leisure is everyone's responsibility."

With this initiative, the Coria del Río Town Hall reinforces its prevention message among young people and promotes a culture of care and shared responsibility during the Fair celebrations. This measure adds to the awareness actions that the council has been developing in recent years in the area of protection against sexual violence and chemical submission.
