Mayor José Luis Sanz has presented this grand production of lyrical-symphonic ballet that will premiere on October 16 and 17 in the Patio de la Montería. The people of Seville will be able to obtain free invitations.
The Mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, presented The Ignited Faun this Wednesday at the Real Alcázar, an ambitious production of lyrical-symphonic ballet that will debut on October 16 and 17 in the Patio de la Montería. The show, which originates in the capital of Seville, combines music, dance, and live vocals, and is expected to later embark on a tour of national and international venues.
During the presentation, Sanz emphasised the Sevillian character of the project, conceived entirely in the city. “It is designed, created, produced, and driven from Seville by Sevillian professionals,” stated the mayor, who highlighted that this initiative demonstrates that the city “continues to be capable of creating culture with a capital C.”
The work is signed by the Sevillian composer Manuel Marvizón, who is the author of the original music and stage adaptation, and features choreography by Sergio Bernal, a prominent figure in contemporary Spanish dance. The inspiration comes from the eponymous story by the Sevillian writer Francisco Infantes Florido, included in his book A Escena, conceived from its inception as a story intended for dance.
“We want to reclaim the extraordinary legacy of those who made Seville a benchmark for literary creation and recover the figure of Francisco Infantes Florido, a Sevillian author whose work deserves to occupy its rightful place in our cultural memory,” Sanz pointed out.
In fact, the mayor announced that the City Council will incorporate the name of Francisco Infantes Florido into the Paseo de los Poetas, where he will have his own plaque, joining those already dedicated to Ignacio Sánchez Mejías and Luis Cernuda, which is inaugurated today.
The premiere of The Ignited Faun is part of the commemoration of the centenary of the Generation of '27, a cultural milestone in which the Real Alcázar will play a leading role. Sanz recalled that this space is not only a place to contemplate the past but “a space where the future of our culture is created.”
One of the most notable innovations is that the people of Seville will be able to enjoy this premiere for free. Tickets will be distributed through free invitations for the residents of Seville, which can be collected during the week of the performance at the monument's box office, within normal opening hours.
“We want the residents of Seville to experience a unique experience in a unique place like the Patio de la Montería, without access to culture being a barrier,” the mayor emphasised.
The artistic cast includes the Sevillian soprano Rocío Ignacio, Cuban tenor Andrés Sánchez Joglar, Granada soprano Esperanza Garrido, the Choir of the Friends of the Teatro de la Maestranza Association, and the Málaga Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Francisco Javier Gutiérrez Juan. The project also benefits from the scenic advice of Eva Yerbabuena, the dramaturgical adaptation by José Antonio Francés, the audiovisual creation by Carlos Valera, and the executive production by the Sevillian company Pasarela S. L. The official image of the show has been created by illustrator and art director Herme Velázquez.
The premiere of The Ignited Faun adds to the cultural commitment of the Real Alcázar as a living space for creation. Sanz recalled recent initiatives such as the exhibition Sorolla and the Real Alcázar, which has become the most visited exhibition in Seville this year with over 300,000 visitors; the celebration of the Flamenco Biennial in the Patio de la Montería; or the established cycle of Nights in the Gardens of the Real Alcázar.
The performances will take place on October 16 and 17. Interested parties should keep an eye on the opening of the invitation collection, which will take place during the week prior at the Real Alcázar box office.
