Seville City Council, through the Urban Planning Management, will begin resurfacing works on Avenida Carlos V next Sunday, July 26, which will last until Friday, July 31, with night traffic closures.
Seville City Council has announced that starting Sunday, July 26, resurfacing works will begin on Avenida Carlos V, in the vicinity of Prado de San Sebastián. The work, which will continue until Friday, July 31, aims to renew the surface of this road, which had numerous imperfections and cracks that posed a danger to vehicle circulation.
The delegate for Urban Planning and Environment, Juan de la Rosa, explained that this work completes the resurfacing of the entire axis formed by the avenues Menéndez Pelayo, El Cid, and Carlos V, the first two sections of which already have renewed pavement. “This is a very important avenue in the city that connects different areas and facilitates access to the historic centre, and where numerous bus lines converge, so it is essential to improve the pavement to achieve greater safety for drivers and users,” the delegate pointed out.
To minimise the impact on mobility, the works will preferably be carried out at night. A total closure of traffic on Avenida Carlos V is scheduled for the section between Avenida Menéndez Pelayo and Avenida de la Borbolla, from Sunday, July 26, to Friday, July 31, from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. The exception will be on Sunday, July 26, when the closure will begin at 7:00 PM and will last until 6:00 AM on Monday.
The urban bus service Tussam will adapt its routes during the closures. The alternative route will run along Avenida Menéndez Pelayo, Manuel Bermudo Barrero, Plaza San Sebastián, José María Osborne, Diego de Riaño, Avenida de Málaga, Juan de Mata Carriazo, Avenida de la Borbolla, Avenida de Portugal, Avenida del Cid, and Avenida Menéndez Pelayo. The streets Diego de Riaño (in the section Avenida de Portugal-Avenida Carlos V and José María Osborne-Avenida Carlos V) will be dead ends, with access only for residents.
This action is part of the City Council's Pavement and Asphalt Improvement Plan, whose budget has increased by 43% compared to the previous year. Juan de la Rosa highlighted that the plan “is part of a historic reinforcement of the pavement maintenance contract of the Urban Planning Management, which will have an annual budget of 20 million euros; that is, more than double the contract we found at the beginning of the mandate.” The delegate recalled that the budget has increased from the 8 million allocated by the PSOE to 10, then to 14, and now reaches 20 million, representing a 43% increase compared to the current contract for 2024-2025.
The new contract also strengthens operational capacity, increasing from two to three companies working on these services, which allows for better coverage of the workload required by a city like Seville. The plan also includes a strategic improvement by dividing the city into three large operational sectors. The action on Avenida Carlos V is located in the sector that includes the districts of Sur, Nervión, Cerro-Amate, and San Pablo-Santa Justa.
These pavement improvement works are in addition to other actions that José Luis Sanz's government has promoted over the past year in the vicinity of Prado de San Sebastián, which have involved an investment of 1,618,290 euros. Among them, the launch of the Ciudad de los Niños stands out, the new children's park that has already completed its first phase of execution, with an investment of 921,196.11 euros. This action has created a new play area of 1,164 square meters, themed around Seville's festive identity, with a central structure inspired by the historic Pasarela de la Feria de Abril from 1896 to 1921.
Additionally, Emasesa is carrying out works to renew the supply and sanitation networks on Ciudad de Ronda street and to install a new supply network on Infante don Carlos de Borbón and Infanta Luisa de Orleans streets, with a budget of 597,094 euros. On the other hand, the City Council incorporated new streets around Avenida de Portugal and Diego de Riaño into the Surface Parking Management Service (GES) last January, responding to a long-standing demand from residents.
Drivers who regularly travel on Avenida Carlos V should anticipate the night closures and plan alternative routes during that week. For residents of the affected streets, it is recommended to pay attention to the provisional signage and the closure times.
