The Board of the Real Alcázar will distribute 500 invitations per performance on October 16 and 17. They can be collected at the box office on October 12 and 13 starting at 18:00 and will be nominal.
The Patio de la Montería of the Real Alcázar of Seville will host the premiere of FAUNO on October 16 and 17 at 21:00, a new symphonic-lyrical ballet that combines dance, music, singing, and dramaturgy. The production originates in Seville and has been conceived to integrate the monumental space into the narrative itself, as reported by the Seville City Council.
The vice president of the Board of the Real Alcázar, Juan Bueno, has pointed out that the venue is not just a heritage symbol but an open space for contemporary creation. To facilitate access for locals, the Board will distribute 1,000 free invitations, 500 for each performance, exclusively for people born or residing in Seville.
“We want this opportunity to reach the people of Seville so they can enjoy an exceptional show for free in an equally exceptional place,” emphasized Juan Bueno.
The invitations are nominal and for one person only, meaning each ticket will be linked to the identity of its beneficiary. For the performance on Friday, October 16, they can be collected on Monday, October 12 starting at 18:00 at the box office of the Real Alcázar; for the performance on Saturday, October 17, the collection will be on Tuesday, October 13 at the same time and location. It will be necessary to prove birth or residence in the city, and each invitation will grant access only to the corresponding date and performance.
The work, with music and lyrical texts by Manuel Marvizón Carvallo, is inspired by the tale The Ignited Faun or Laura's Dreams, by Francisco Infante Florido, and features adaptation and dramatization by José Antonio Francés. The musical direction is by Francisco Javier Gutiérrez Juan, while the choreography and the lead role of the Faun are handled by Sergio Bernal, one of Spain's internationally projected dance figures.
The cast of dancers includes Miriam Mendoza (Laura), José Manuel Benítez (Rafael), and María Gómez (Carmen). In the vocal section, soprano Rocío Ignacio will be the voice of Laura, tenor Andrés Sánchez Joglar will be the voice of Rafael, and Esperanza Garrido will provide the flamenco voice of Carmen. The voice of the Faun will have a choral dimension through the Choir of the Friends of the Teatro Maestranza Association.
The plot follows Laura and Rafael, two young lovers whose fate changes when she enters the Faun's territory and drinks from a cursed fountain. From there, a conflict arises between desire, temptation, and love, with Carmen as the protective figure. The score combines symphonic tradition with elements of Andalusian and flamenco culture from a contemporary perspective.
Juan Bueno explained that the choice of the Alcázar responds to an artistic conception in which heritage ceases to be a backdrop to integrate into the story. “The architecture of the Patio de la Montería will dialogue with a story in which myth, nature, and reality intertwine,” he stated.
With this premiere, the Real Alcázar strengthens its cultural programming and its role as a venue for nationally and internationally significant proposals. Those interested in attending must go to the box office on the indicated dates and present documentation proving their connection to Seville.
