Seville City Council has announced the addition of the Sevillian writer Francisco Infantes Florido to the Paseo de los Poetas. The plaque bearing his name will join those of Sánchez Mejías and Cernuda in a space that pays tribute to the greats of literature.

The announcement was made during the presentation of 'El Fauno Encendido', a lyrical-symphonic ballet production that originates in Seville and is inspired by a story by Infantes Florido himself. The mayor, José Luis Sanz, highlighted that this work is "the first major nod from the Real Alcázar to the commemoration of the centenary of the Generation of '27'."
"We want to reclaim the extraordinary legacy of those who made Seville a reference for literary creation and recover the figure of Francisco Infantes Florido, a Sevillian author whose work deserves to occupy its rightful place in our cultural memory," Sanz stated during the event.
The Paseo de los Poetas is located near the Real Alcázar and is a thoroughfare for locals and tourists alike. With this new plaque, the City Council aims to highlight local authors who have contributed to the city's literary heritage. The decision to include Infantes Florido follows the recent placement of the plaque for Luis Cernuda, which is now part of the route.
The production 'El Fauno Encendido', which served as the backdrop for the announcement, is a large-scale work that combines music, dance, and live voice. It is created by the Sevillian composer Manuel Marvizón, who is responsible for the original music and stage adaptation, and features choreography by Sergio Bernal. The show will premiere in the Patio de la Montería of the Real Alcázar on October 16 and 17, before embarking on a tour of national and international venues.
The work is inspired by the eponymous story by Sevillian writer Francisco Infantes Florido, included in his book 'A Escena', which the author conceived from its inception as a story intended for dance. For the mayor, this initiative "constitutes the first major nod from the Real Alcázar to the commemoration of the centenary of the Generation of '27'."
The cast of 'El Fauno Encendido' includes Sevillian soprano Rocío Ignacio, Cuban tenor Andrés Sánchez Joglar, Granada soprano Esperanza Garrido, the Choir of the Friends of the Teatro de la Maestranza Association, and the Málaga Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Francisco Javier Gutiérrez Juan. The large-scale production promises to be one of the standout cultural events of autumn in Seville.
Residents of Seville will be able to enjoy this performance in the unique heritage setting of the Real Alcázar. Tickets for the two scheduled performances will be on sale soon, according to the City Council.
