The Alameda de Hércules residents' association and its surroundings (ADAHE) has denounced this Monday the passivity of the City Council of Seville in minimising the negative impact of mass events, following the four days of Pride celebrations, with fireworks at dawn, concerts outside of schedule, and widespread dirt.
The Alameda de Hércules residents' association and its surroundings (ADAHE) has filed a new formal complaint against the City Council of Seville regarding the incidents that occurred during the Pride celebrations from June 25 to 28. In a statement, the entity claims that, once again, residents have endured avoidable excesses such as fireworks at dawn, concerts that extended until three in the morning, intrusive noise levels, impossible mobility, overcrowding, illegal outdoor seating, and dirt in the streets.
“The City Council is responsible for preventing all this nonsense that the neighbours suffer at every event, and therefore, we urge them again to provide whatever means and measures are necessary for this,” the association states. The complaint recalls that back in April, on the occasion of the Copa del Rey, they submitted a letter to Mayor José Luis Sanz to foresee the chaos, but they assert that their requests have not been addressed.
One of the main points of conflict is the failure to comply with the concert closing times. According to ADAHE, the City Council set the limit at 2:00 am from Thursday to Saturday and 11:00 pm on Sunday, but the music continued beyond that. “On Sunday, we had to alert the City Council via social media because at 11:48 pm the music was still blaring. The other nights they also did not comply: one night it ended at 2:30 am and another at 3:00 am,” they emphasise.
The association expresses its “absolute rejection” of the lack of municipal support to minimise the impact of large events in the neighbourhood. “It seems that the demands raised during the last Copa de S.M. el Rey have not been addressed by the Mayor or his government team,” they protest. ADAHE clarifies that it respects social demands, religious demonstrations, and sports, cultural, and artistic events, but demands that the rules of coexistence be respected.
The problem is not limited to Alameda. The Puerto de Sevilla residents' association repeatedly denounces the effects of daily drinking parties on Tarfia and Lorenzo Sepúlveda streets, with young people drinking, broken bottles, urination, vomiting, shouting, and motorcycle racing. “How long will we have to endure this? Is it necessary for us to organise neighbourhood patrols?” they ask on social media.
“The City of Excesses brings degradation to its neighbourhoods, excesses that violate the right to rest and countless other issues. The current policy has no city model,” states the Puerto de Sevilla association.
ADAHE has announced that it will continue to insist to the City Council for stronger controls during mass events. Meanwhile, the residents of Alameda are demanding an urgent meeting with the delegate of Major Festivals to discuss concrete measures that guarantee compliance with regulations and the right to rest.
