The Vice President of Prodetur, Rodrigo Rodríguez Hans, has met with the new director of Sevilla Airport, Miguel Palomares, to boost the province's air connectivity.

The Vice President of Prodetur, Rodrigo Rodríguez Hans, and the new director of Sevilla Airport, Miguel Palomares, held their first institutional meeting on Tuesday at the airport facilities. The goal: to strengthen collaboration to improve the province's air connections and attract new routes, especially long-haul ones.

First Institutional Contact with the New Director

The meeting served for Rodríguez Hans to convey to Palomares the willingness of the Sevilla Provincial Council, through Prodetur, to maintain coordinated work with Aena. Both parties agreed on the need to consolidate existing routes and advance in attracting new air connections.

The meeting was the first formal contact between the two since Palomares took over the direction of Sevilla Airport. Rodríguez Hans described the infrastructure as “strategic” for the province's development and “an essential ally” for local tourism and the economy.

Long-Distance Markets, the Main Focus

The interest in collaboration is particularly focused on international long-distance markets deemed important for the Sevilla destination. According to the Provincial Council, the aim is to expand the destination's presence in key sending markets, both national and international.

Prodetur is already engaged in intensive promotional work in these markets, as well as actions to support air connectivity in coordination with sector agents.

“Our goal is to continue facilitating that the province of Sevilla gains presence in the main sending markets. Each new connection represents an opportunity for our businesses, our municipalities, and our tourism fabric,” Rodríguez Hans stated.

Tourism and Employment, the Major Beneficiaries

For the Vice President of Prodetur, the airport is a economic engine and a job generator. Improving air connectivity directly impacts tourism, which in turn drives the province's growth. Rodríguez Hans expressed his confidence that the collaboration will continue to contribute to Sevilla's economic and tourism development.

The Sevilla Airport has recovered much of its pre-pandemic traffic in recent years, but the lack of intercontinental flights remains a pending issue. With this alliance, the Provincial Council hopes to give a definitive boost to long-haul connectivity.

This Tuesday's meeting lays the groundwork for future joint actions between Prodetur and Aena. New announcements regarding possible new routes, especially towards America and Asia, the priority markets for the Sevilla destination, are expected in the coming months.
