La Solana athlete Paula Sevilla (Nike Running) has lowered her personal best in the 400 metres to 50.68 seconds at the Madrid Meeting, the third best record in the history of Spanish athletics.

The athlete from La Solana Paula Sevilla has once again demonstrated why she is one of the great promises of national athletics. At the Madrid Meeting, held at the Vallehermoso stadium, the sprinter trained by José Luis Calvo stopped the clock at 50.68, her personal best in the 400 metres and the third best record ever in Spanish athletics at this distance.

A race of the highest level

The event, considered the highlight of the silver category meeting of World Athletics, brought together a top-level lineup. The victory went to Italian Anna Polinari, who also achieved a personal best with 50.36. Following her, Madrid's Blanca Hervás (50.46) and Sevilla completed a virtual podium of national records.

Paula Sevilla finished in sixth place in the A final, but her time ranks her as the third best Spanish athlete in history at this distance, only behind the marks of Blanca Hervás and the national record holder. Her previous personal best was 50.69, achieved at the Tokyo World Championships.

“I am very happy with the result. I knew I could run faster and the hard work is paying off. Now it's time to keep preparing for the Europeans,” the athlete declared to the media present at Vallehermoso.

Double success from La Solana in Madrid

She was not the only representative from La Solana at the meeting. Fellow athlete Herminia Parra (Cueva de Nerja) competed in the B final of the 400 metres, where she secured second place with a time of 51.91, also a personal best. A double success that showcases the strong moment of women's athletics in the province of Ciudad Real.

Meanwhile, Valdepeñas athlete Asabu Pinés (Scorpio) participated in the B final of the men's 400 metres, finishing fifth with a time of 46.21. Pinés arrives at this event after winning a silver medal at the Under-23 Spanish Championships last weekend.

Looking towards the Europeans in Birmingham

With this mark, Paula Sevilla positions herself as one of Spain's hopes for the European Outdoor Championships to be held in August in Birmingham. The Spanish Athletics Federation has high hopes for the relays, where Sevilla could be a key player.

The Madrid Meeting featured the participation of 155 athletes from 36 countries and 94 international medallists from major world and continental championships, highlighting the level of the competition.

For the Sevillian fan, Paula Sevilla's progress is a source of pride. The athlete, trained on the tracks of La Solana, continues to climb the ranks in the international scene and aims for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics as her main goal.
