Mayor José Luis Sanz and the director of Endesa in Andalusia have visited the works in the Palmete neighbourhood, where the first of three transformation centres has been installed to strengthen the electrical network in the area.

The mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, supervised this Friday alongside the director of Endesa in Andalusia, Extremadura, Ceuta and Melilla, Rafael Sánchez Durán, the installation of one of the 23 new transformation centres that the company is deploying in various neighbourhoods of the capital to put an end to the historic power cuts. The visit took place in Palmete, one of the areas hardest hit by blackouts, where Endesa already placed the framework for the first transformer on June 23.

Electrical reinforcement in Palmete and other neighbourhoods

In Palmete, technicians are working on the conduits to install more than 2.2 kilometres of new medium and low voltage cabling. The newly installed transformation centre has two machines of 630 kVA each, and will be joined by two others that will be installed before the end of the year. In total, the additional power in the neighbourhood will reach 3,780 kVA, enough to supply more than 2,200 homes.

The action is not limited to Palmete. Endesa has already installed eight of the 23 planned centres: one in Polígono Sur, another in Padre Pío, two in Polígono Store and three in Polígono Carretera Amarilla. Each of these transformers weighs 25 tonnes and has required the use of specialized cranes for their placement.

12.6 kilometres of cabling and 26,640 kVA of new power

The overall plan includes laying more than 12.6 kilometres of medium voltage cabling and 67.2 kilometres of low voltage. The total installed power will be 26,640 kVA, a figure that, according to Endesa, would allow service to 13,200 new customers or even nine hospitals like Macarena.

These 23 centres add to another 25 installed in the city as a result of agreements with the City Council in 2022 and 2025, which have allowed for the doubling and even tripling of power in neighbourhoods such as Cerro Amate, Torreblanca or Palmete itself. The collaboration between the City Council and the electricity company has been key to providing the necessary land for these infrastructures.

For the residents of these areas, the arrival of the new transformers represents relief after years of complaints about recurrent power cuts, especially in summer when the use of air conditioning spikes demand. Although Endesa has not given a specific date for the completion of all the works, the expectation is that they will be operational before the next heatwave.
