The Brotherhood of the Divine Shepherdess and Santa Marina has entrusted the creation of the poster 'Seville, III Sunday of September' for 2026 to the artist and sacred architect Noli Príncipe Manalang. The appointment aims to give international projection to the corporation.
The Primitiva and Royal Brotherhood of the Divine Shepherdess and Santa Marina surprised with the announcement of the artist commissioned for their 2026 poster. Noli Príncipe Manalang, a painter, architect, and sacred creator of Filipino origin, will be the author of the work that will announce the procession on the third Sunday of September. The corporation, which in recent years has opted for quality commissions, is now making an international leap with this appointment.
An artist of international prestige for a unique poster
Manalang, a graduate in Architecture from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines, has dedicated his career to renewing religious art without losing sight of tradition. His work is characterised by a strong symbolic load and a deep devotional content, combining classical iconography with contemporary sensibilities. The Senior Brother, Francisco Javier Segura Márquez, explained that the choice was unanimous: "In this case, it was an excellent opportunity, and the choice of the artist was unanimous."
The brotherhood has been commissioning posters from different artists for about 15 years, first with photographic competitions and then with paintings. The canonical coronation of the Divine Shepherdess in 2025 marked a turning point, raising the level of the announcing works. For this year, the corporation wanted something special, and the visit of Filipino politician Geraldine Román (the first trans woman in the Philippine Congress) facilitated contact with Manalang. "We received her visit and discovered that she is a great enthusiast of the Holy Week in Seville," Segura recalled.
Sevillian ties and global projection
The artist is not unknown in the city. Manalang has collaborated with the Altar of Hispanity and the Brotherhood of Esperanza Macarena, which reinforces the ties between Seville and the Philippines. For the brotherhood, this commission represents "an opportunity for international projection," according to the Senior Brother. The poster, titled 'Seville, III Sunday of September', will be presented in the coming months and is expected to maintain the dialogue between the pastoral tradition and the artist's contemporary language. The procession will take place on the third Sunday of September, as is customary, and the image of the Divine Shepherdess will traverse the streets of Santa Marina.
The brothers and devotees eagerly await the result, which promises to be a fusion of cultures. Manalang understands sacred painting as "a manifestation of faith, memory, and service", and his work aims to strengthen the shared spiritual heritage between Spain and the Philippines. Undoubtedly, a poster that will generate discussion.
