The Town Hall of Los Palacios and Villafranca has started improvement works on Ortega y Gasset street, with an investment exceeding 200,000 euros from the Programme for the Promotion of Agricultural Employment (PFOEA) for 2025.
The Town Hall of Los Palacios and Villafranca has launched renovation and accessibility improvement works on Ortega y Gasset street, in the section between Madrid street and Utrera Avenue. The investment, which exceeds 200,000 euros, comes from the Programme for the Promotion of Agricultural Employment (PFOEA) for 2025.
The mayor, Juan Manuel Valle, visited the works on Wednesday, which include the demolition of the existing pavement on both sidewalks and its subsequent reconstruction, aiming to ensure accessibility and comply with current regulations. Additionally, the drinking water supply network will be renewed, replacing the asbestos cement pipes with polyethylene ones, which will improve the supply capacity to homes in the area.
Valle recalled that this action continues the improvements that were made several years ago on another section of the same road. “We are executing one of the projects from the agricultural employment programme for 2025 in a section of Ortega y Gasset street, continuing the work that was carried out several years ago in another part of this road,” the mayor pointed out during his visit.
The mayor highlighted that the work “includes the demolition of the existing pavement on both sidewalks, the renewal of the drinking water supply network, and the replacement of the old asbestos cement network with a polyethylene one, which will enhance our capacity to supply water to homes.”
The intervention not only aims to improve the quality of life for residents but also to generate employment. Valle emphasized that the investment “represents an investment exceeding 200,000 euros, which means labour, improved quality of life for residents, and enhanced accessibility on our sidewalks.”
The Town Hall of Los Palacios and Villafranca has been carrying out various improvement actions in the municipality each year, funded by grants. “We invest the money from grants wisely so that it results in job creation, improvement of our streets, and ultimately, in the quality of life for the residents of Los Palacios and Villafranca,” the mayor added.
The works are part of the PFOEA, a programme that combines infrastructure improvement with job creation in rural areas. In this case, the works are being carried out by personnel hired through this programme, which also provides employment to workers from the municipality.
It is expected that the works will conclude in the coming weeks, although the Town Hall has not specified an exact completion date. Residents in the area should remain alert to traffic disruptions and changes in pedestrian access that may occur during the development of the works.
