Local duathlete Rocío Maestre claims the overall women's title with 1:41:03 and Sergio Correa retains the men's title with 1:07:26 in a race with 176 participants.
The Parque de Las Marismas hosted this Sunday the sixteenth edition of the Cross Duathlon Villa de Los Palacios y Villafranca, an event that brought together 176 participants across individual and relay categories for men, women, and mixed teams.
The competition began with 5 kilometres of running, followed by 21 kilometres of mountain biking divided into three laps of a technical circuit, and concluded with a final segment of approximately 2.5 kilometres on foot. The route passed through paths and natural surroundings of the municipality.
In the men's overall classification, Sergio Correa González, from the Club Triatlón Isbilya, repeated last year's victory with a time of 1:07:26. He was followed by Emilio Martín Romero, with 1:10:44, and local duathlete Carlos Morales Toledo, from C. D. Triatletas Roteños, with 1:11:19.
In the women's category, local athlete Rocío Maestre Domínguez took the overall title with 1:41:03. Trinidad Alanís Pérez was second with 1:44:26 and Marisa Escalona Reina completed the podium with 1:48:49.
In age groups, in men's junior, Juan Pablo Cano Parejo won; in senior, Francisco Javier Gómez Fernández; in veteran A, Miguel Ángel Muñoz Moreno; in veteran B, Jorge Camacho Fernández; and in veteran C, Eduardo Martín Infante.
In relays, Las Cabezas Power won in the men's category and Gómez Baena did the same in the women's, while Los Primos Muñoz triumphed in the mixed category.
The organisation also recognised local athletes. In the local men's classification, José María Marcos Falcón won, and Rocío Maestre Domínguez again topped the podium in the women's category, achieving a double recognition after her overall victory.
The overall winner, Sergio Correa, wanted to highlight the atmosphere experienced and the support from the municipality for this event, which he tries to attend every year due to Los Palacios and Villafranca's commitment to sports.

At the end of the events, participants praised the organisation and the conditions of the locality to host high-level competitions, while the organisation thanked the collaboration of sponsors, partners, and volunteers, which was essential for the event's success.
The event featured volunteers, security forces, medical services, and organisational staff, who ensured the smooth running of the different categories and the safety of the participants.
The event was organised by the Sports Delegation of the Town Hall of Los Palacios and Villafranca together with the Sports Association Duatlón Cross Villa de Los Palacios y Villafranca. Present during the day were the mayor, Juan Manuel Valle, the municipal sports delegate, Chari Parejo, and the race director, Joaquín Castillo.
With this edition, the cross duathlon re-establishes itself as one of the major events on the local sports calendar, with wide participation and prominence of local athletes.
