The Manuel Mairena Auditorium recorded a full house at the XLV edition of the Festival de Cante Jondo Antonio Mairena, with performances by José Mercé, Rocío Luna, and Farruquito.
Last Saturday, the Manuel Mairena Auditorium in Mairena del Alcor hosted the XLV edition of the Festival de Cante Jondo Antonio Mairena, which once again demonstrated its popular appeal with a full house. This event, one of the most anticipated in the flamenco calendar, brought together hundreds of enthusiasts for a night dedicated to the art, tradition, and memory of the master.
Before the performances began, a tribute was paid to Antonio Mairena with the traditional floral offering at the mausoleum that the Mairena del Alcor Town Hall has dedicated to the singer in the municipal cemetery, a gesture that opens each edition of the festival.
The gala, presented by Manuel Martín Martín, brought together a top-level cast on stage: the voices of Rocío Luna, José Mercé, La Macanita, and Juan de Mairena, and the dance of Juan Manuel Fernández Montoya, Farruquito, accompanied in song by Ismael de la Rosa, Bola, Manuel de la Nina, and Mari Vizárraga. On guitar were Manuel Valencia, Antonio Higuero, Francis Gómez, and Benito Bernal, while Paco Vega took care of the percussion.
This year's edition was dedicated to the figure of Diego Clavel, so the gala began with a tribute to the singer on stage. The singing, guitar, clapping, and dancing made the audience vibrate until the early hours of the morning, in a night that reaffirms Mairena del Alcor as one of the epicentres of flamenco in the province of Seville.
