The Alcalá de Guadaíra City Council approves the contracting file to double the area of the City Museum, which will exceed 1,000 square meters of exhibition space.
The City Museum of Alcalá de Guadaíra is facing its major transformation. The local Government Board has given the green light to the contracting file for the expansion works, with a tender budget of 966,962.02 euros and an execution period of twelve months once the works are awarded. The project, which has been in waiting for years, now begins its processing so that the expansion can become a reality in 2027.
The action will allow the museum, which has been a cultural reference for the city for two decades, to double its current area to exceed 1,000 square meters of exhibition space. This was explained by the mayor, Ana Isabel Jiménez, and the delegate for Culture, Heritage and Museums, Christopher Rivas, during the project presentation, where they emphasized that the expansion aims to grow in excellence not only at the local level but also at the Andalusian level.
The new museographic route will have the history of Alcalá de Guadaíra as its central axis and will incorporate updated exhibition techniques. It will provide space for Fine Arts, the archaeology and paleontology collection, and other elements that allow the history of the municipality to be told in an interactive and innovative way, without losing sight of its educational, tourist, and cultural function.
The works include the recovery of the existing industrial building in Plaza de la Almazara, which will have a new façade and access to the museum. In this building, three levels will be created: two for the pictorial exhibition and one for temporary displays. Additionally, a new construction will connect the rehabilitated building with the current one, where the reception, communication hub, services, and administrative area will be located.
Once completed, the museum will have two buildings connected by a common area and new accesses from La Almazara and Parque Centro. Furthermore, the new Museum Square will be created as an outdoor exhibition space, linked to the comprehensive remodeling of Parque Centro, with the aim of generating a cultural corridor that will connect the Museum with the House of Culture.
The tender will be published soon on the public sector contracting platform, and interested companies will be able to submit their offers. The forecast is that the works, once awarded, will be executed within a year, so that the expansion can be operational in 2027.
