The Alcalá de Guadaíra City Council has approved the largest renovation of public lighting in the urban area, with an investment of €7.47 million. A total of 7,870 light points will be replaced with LED technology, allowing for an estimated annual energy saving of €1 million.
The Alcalá de Guadaíra City Council has given the green light to the contracting of works for the largest renovation of public lighting in the urban area, with an investment exceeding €7.47 million. The project includes the replacement of current discharge luminaires with LED technology, a measure aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing electricity consumption.
The action, which will be carried out in four lots, is part of the Aid Programme for Singular Projects for Public Lighting Renovation, coordinated by the Institute for Diversification and Energy Saving (IDAE) and financed by the National Energy Efficiency Fund. The objective is to modernise municipal infrastructures and move towards a more sustainable city model.
In total, 7,870 light points will be renewed through the installation of high-efficiency LED luminaires, with colour temperatures adapted to minimise light pollution. The project also includes the adaptation of existing control panels and the implementation of a point-to-point telemanagement system that will optimise the network's operation, improve its maintenance, and facilitate more efficient resource management.
The Urban Habitat delegate, David Delgado, highlighted that this action represents "a decisive step in modernising municipal public services" and adds to other interventions that the municipal government has been developing in recent years. "With this new intervention, we will complete one of the largest renovations of the outdoor lighting system in Alcalá de Guadaíra, with an investment that will reach the entire urban area and incorporate cutting-edge technology," he stated.
Delgado assured that, once the replacement is completed, an estimated energy saving of approximately €1 million per year is expected, which will significantly reduce electricity consumption and advance the municipal objectives of energy efficiency and sustainability.
The works will also include the removal of the replaced luminaires and other elements, their proper management as waste through authorised managers, the installation of new equipment, and the execution of necessary modifications to supports and electrical panels to adapt them to current regulations and integrate them into the telemanagement system.
With this investment, the Alcalá de Guadaíra City Council continues to develop projects aimed at improving the energy efficiency of municipal services, optimising the use of public resources, and contributing to the fulfilment of sustainability and energy transition objectives promoted by public administrations. The municipality's residents will benefit from more efficient lighting and a reduction in municipal energy expenditure, which will reflect in the improvement of services.
The renovation of public lighting is one of the most demanded actions by citizens, as it directly impacts road and pedestrian safety, as well as the quality of life in public spaces. With this intervention, Alcalá de Guadaíra aligns itself with European policies on energy efficiency and emission reduction.
