The institutes of Alcalá de Guadaíra welcomed 5,487 secondary, baccalaureate and vocational students this Monday. The City Council highlights the annual €90,000 for socio-educational projects and the transfer of an industrial unit to IES Hienipa.
The 2026-2027 school year has kicked off in Alcalá de Guadaíra with 5,487 students of secondary, baccalaureate and vocational training entering the classrooms. This figure is provided by the City Council, which accompanied the opening day with a review of municipal support programmes for these educational levels.
The mayor, Ana Isabel Jiménez, was responsible for welcoming the students. In her message, she linked education to the future employment of young people and defended the role of the City Council in maintaining the centres and implementing direct aid.
“The municipal commitment to these academic stages is crucial for the development not only of personal skills but also of the students' professional future.”
Jiménez also referred to “the commitment and defence of quality public education” and mentioned the subsidies and joint actions with the institutes to improve coexistence and equal opportunities.
The Education delegate, Pablo Chain, provided figures to support this backing. The €90,000 annually that the City Council allocates to socio-educational projects against absenteeism and in favour of academic incentives and coexistence in the institutes through the AMPAs is, in his words, “a pioneering municipal initiative of unprecedented amount among Andalusian municipalities.”
This allocation is complemented by other nominative and competitive grants for projects promoting scientific, historical, artistic, cultural, or health initiatives. Chain argued that without this funding, the centres would not be able to develop beneficial initiatives for the educational community.
Vocational training occupies a central place in the municipal discourse at the start of this school year. The delegate emphasised its impact on youth employment and cited the municipal industrial unit transferred to IES Hienipa for the practical training of the Intermediate Vocational Training Cycle in Construction Technician, an initiative that required an investment of over €48,000.
“Facilities without which the implementation of this programme would not have been possible. This is one of the examples of the Government Team's commitment to improving the educational offer and employment for the youth of Alcalá.”
The City Council insists on the need to align vocational training with market demands. The idea reiterated by the Council is that local companies find qualified personnel within the city, so that job creation is supported by local human resources.
With this aim, the City Council has been organising contact days between institutes with vocational training cycles and sectors such as industry, logistics, or civil engineering for years. These meetings are promoted by the Economic Development Delegation alongside the Education and Employment departments.
The school year is already underway in the institutes of Alcalá de Guadaíra, which face the academic calendar with these municipal programmes as support. Families can consult the details of the grants and projects at the AMPAs' offices and at the City Council.
