The mayor of Lebrija, Pepe Barroso, and the sports delegate welcomed local athlete Nacho Ramírez after he was proclaimed the winner of the Ultra Nordic World Record in the distance of 82 kilometres, held in the Polish city of Toruń.

The walker from the Municipal School of Nordic Walking in Lebrija Nacho Ramírez has once again put the name of his town on the international map of endurance sports. Last June, in the Polish city of Toruń, he was crowned the overall winner of the Ultra Nordic World Record event, in the 82-kilometre category, with a time of 10 hours and 42 minutes. This record allowed him to surpass some of the best specialists in the world in long-distance Nordic walking.

An extreme endurance feat

The competition, considered one of the toughest on the international Nordic walking calendar, took place on a circuit of just 2.5 kilometres. This forced participants to complete numerous laps under particularly adverse conditions, marked by physical and mental fatigue, as well as sudden changes in temperature and humidity. From the start, the Lebrija athlete maintained a position among the leaders, managing his effort with impeccable strategy and a steady pace that allowed him to consolidate his lead in the final kilometres until crossing the finish line in first place.

According to sources from the Lebrija City Council, Nacho Ramírez's success is not only a personal milestone but also places the Sevillian town on the international sports scene. The mayor, Pepe Barroso, highlighted during the meeting at the Town Hall the effort, perseverance, and ability to overcome challenges displayed by the walker, values that, he said, represent the entire community.

Reception at the Town Hall

The mayor of Lebrija, Pepe Barroso, and the sports delegate welcomed Nacho Ramírez at the Town Hall on Wednesday, July 15, to personally congratulate him on his extraordinary achievement. During the event, Barroso conveyed the congratulations of the entire municipal corporation to the athlete and emphasized the example he sets for the youth of the municipality. "

It is a source of pride to have a Lebrija native competing at the highest level and bringing a world record home. His dedication is a mirror for others to look into
", said the mayor.

For her part, the sports delegate emphasized the role of the Municipal School of Nordic Walking in training elite athletes. The school, which has been promoting this discipline in Lebrija for years, has seen one of its students reach the pinnacle of international sport. Nacho Ramírez, visibly moved, thanked the support of the City Council and his coaches, stating that this triumph is the result of many years of hard work and sacrifice.

A milestone for local Nordic walking

Nordic walking is a discipline that combines hiking with the use of poles, and in recent years it has gained followers in the province of Seville. Lebrija, with its municipal school, has become a benchmark in this modality. Nacho Ramírez's record is not only an individual success but also boosts the visibility of a sport that, although minority, has an increasingly broad community in the Guadalquivir Marshes region.

For the residents of Lebrija, their compatriot's achievement is a source of pride and proof that effort and dedication can take one anywhere in the world. The City Council has already announced that it will consider the possibility of organising a public tribute to the walker, so that the entire community can celebrate his success.

Nacho Ramírez, who is now resting in Lebrija after his Polish journey, does not rule out new international challenges. For now, his name is already recorded in the annals of the Ultra Nordic World Record, and his example inspires the new generations of walkers from the Municipal School.
