The Ministry of Transport incorporates a new northern link in the AP-4 project at Las Cabezas de San Juan, a historic demand from the Town Hall that will avoid crossing the urban area to access the motorway.
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has given the green light to the inclusion of a new northern link on the AP-4 at Las Cabezas de San Juan, as part of the expansion project to three lanes of the motorway. This was announced on Monday by the mayor, Pepe Solano, who described the news as “one of the most important for the municipality's infrastructure in recent years.”
The action, long demanded by the Town Hall, will allow direct connection from the northern area of the town to the motorway towards Seville without the need to cross the urban core. The new link will be located at Cerro del Fantasma, before the access bridge to the town, and will include a roundabout and a newly constructed bridge.
“We have worked to make the Ministry understand that this link was not only important for Las Cabezas but for the entire region. We are the gateway to the Bajo Guadalquivir and a strategic location for the agro-industrial sector,” Solano stated during his appearance in the Plenary Hall.
The project is not limited to the link. As detailed by the mayor, the design includes a new road parallel to the AP-4 that will start from the Orgullo roundabout and run alongside the motorway, utilising the current service road. This road will require the construction of another bridge in the area known as the track bridge and will connect directly to the industrial estate via a new roundabout located next to the A-471 road.
In this way, both residents and heavy vehicles will be able to access the industrial estate or head towards Cádiz without crossing the urban area, which will improve road safety, reduce travel times, and decongest internal traffic. The existing southern link will also be remodelled: before the current access bridge to the AP-4, a new roundabout will be built that will allow access to the motorway towards Seville and will connect with a network of branches linking the AP-4 with the A-471 bypass.
Solano explained that the Ministry's technicians acknowledged that until now no one had conveyed to them on the ground the regional and economic dimension of this action, which reinforced the viability of the municipal proposal. “We managed to continue positioning and reinforcing the strategic character of Las Cabezas de San Juan within the AP-4,” he affirmed.
The mayor thanked the work done over the past years, highlighting that “it is that work that is not visible, the one that only becomes apparent when the results arrive.” He concluded: “We have been demanding this action for a long time, and today we can say that we have achieved it. This project will mark a before and after for the future of Las Cabezas de San Juan and for our entire region.”
The action is part of the third lane project of the AP-4, a key work to improve mobility in the Bajo Guadalquivir, and now, with the incorporation of this link, it will directly benefit the residents of Las Cabezas de San Juan and the surrounding municipalities.
