The Nervion club begins the search to strengthen the attack after the Nigerian, who scored ten goals last season, moved to Venezia. Isaac Romero remains the only pure striker.
The sporting management of Sevilla FC is already working against the clock to rebuild an attack that has lost its top scorer from last season. The departure of Akor Adams to Venezia, confirmed in recent days, has left a significant gap in the Seville attack, which is now looking for at least two players ahead of the 26/27 season.
Adams, who arrived last summer from Montpellier, finished his only campaign in Nervión with ten goals, a figure that was crucial for the team to secure their place in La Liga in the final matches. His departure, however, responds to the economic needs of the club, which is still stabilising its finances after several years of adjustments.
With the Nigerian's departure, coach Luis García Plaza only has Isaac Romero as a natural reference in attack. The player from Lebrija thus takes on an even more prominent role in an offensive front that also includes Peque Fernández as a second striker, although the former Racing de Santander player has yet to show the level he exhibited in Santander.
In light of this situation, several names have gained traction in the Nervión offices. In Argentina, 23-year-old forward David Romero has been linked with Sevilla. The Tigre attacker has scored eleven goals in 19 matches this season, despite having suffered muscle problems in April. His contract with the Argentine club is long, which would allow for a lucrative sale. Moreover, according to sources from the South American country, the player's priority would be to make the leap to Europe, with Sevilla, along with Boca Juniors and Parma, following his progress.
Spanish market candidates are also emerging. The names of Adrián Liso and Fede Viñas have been mentioned strongly in recent weeks. Both have experience in La Liga and offer different profiles to complement the attack. Viñas, a Uruguayan, already knows what it is like to face Sevilla and left his mark at Carlos Tartiere, where he was one of the players who caused the most problems for the Seville team.
The room for manoeuvre for sporting director José Ignacio Navarro has expanded following the departures of Tanguy Nianzou and Adams himself. These moves have freed up space in the squad and in the salary cap, giving some breathing room to a planning process that remains conditioned by the need to balance the books.
However, time is of the essence. There are less than three weeks left until the official debut at Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, scheduled for 15 August at 21:30 against Rayo Vallecano. Before that date, Sevilla must resolve several issues, but none seem as urgent as finding new options for an attack that has lost one of its main scorers.
The Sevilla fans are eagerly awaiting the club's moves in a market that will once again be marked by the need to balance the budget. The board is confident of being able to close the signings before the league starts, although it does not rule out that some deals may extend until the end of the summer transfer window.
