The Town Hall of Las Cabezas de San Juan fully finances the preparation and exam for B1 for nine third and fourth-year students, a pioneering initiative in the region.
The Town Hall of Las Cabezas de San Juan has launched a line of aid for university students in the municipality to cover the cost of the English accreditation that many degrees require for completion. The first edition benefits nine students in their third and fourth years, who will not have to pay for either the training or the exam fees.
The scholarship covers the intensive preparation course, the fees, and the actual test, which in this case will be the Aptis ESOL exam from the British Council. The training is provided at the local academy Little London, run by the young local resident Consuelo, and started on 1 September after a placement test was conducted the previous week.
The mayor, Pepe Solano, and the Education delegate, Noemí Marchena, visited the academy to meet the students and check on the progress of the classes. Solano explained that the aim is to ensure that money is not an obstacle for young people to complete their studies.
“We want no young person from Las Cabezas to face a financial barrier that prevents them from finishing their studies. That’s why we have launched this aid, which covers absolutely everything: from preparation to fees and the exam. These are nine students who will have the opportunity to achieve their B1 and take a further step towards completing their university stage. I thank the work of the Education delegation and also of Intervention and the General Secretariat for shaping this aid.”
Marchena emphasised that the measure responds to a real need and that the students will be able to focus solely on their preparation. The Town Hall also thanked Little London for joining the initiative from the local community.
The call is aimed at students in third and fourth year of university in the municipality. It is expected that the nine beneficiaries will be able to sit for the exam in the coming days, once the intensive training is completed.
This is a pioneering initiative in the region and one of the first of its kind in Andalusia, according to the Town Hall, which hopes to repeat it in future academic years.
