The Osuna Town Hall has allocated €30,000 in aid for the purchase of books and school supplies, benefiting over 500 children in Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Education for the 2026-2027 school year.
A total of 500 children from Osuna will be able to start the 2026-2027 school year with the necessary books and school supplies thanks to the municipal aid granted by the Town Hall. The programme, managed by the Social Welfare department, has a budget of €30,000 to address the requests from families facing economic difficulties.
The call for applications, open to students in Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, and Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO), has received over 400 applications this year. The municipal delegate for Social Welfare, Mª Carmen Berraquero, explained that all requests meeting the requirements have been addressed, allowing support to reach over half a thousand children.
The amounts vary according to the educational stage. Students in Early Childhood receive €80 for materials and books, while those in Primary and ESO receive €50 for the purchase of school supplies. The delegate emphasised that the budget for this line of aid has been increasing in recent years to meet the existing demand.
“Once again, the Town Hall makes this budget available to meet the needs of Ursaonese families who meet the established requirements to access this aid,” Berraquero stated.
One of the particularities of the programme is that the aid must be spent in local establishments, such as bookstores, stationery shops, copy shops, and other businesses in Osuna. This way, the funds directly benefit the local commercial fabric, which collaborates with the Social Services in managing and acquiring the materials.
The delegate expressly thanked these businesses for their involvement and defended the dual objective of the programme: to alleviate the economic burden on the most vulnerable families at the start of the school year while also boosting local commerce. She also insisted that the measure aims to prevent discrimination among students.
“The municipal effort is aimed at ensuring that no child is deprived of the necessary materials to start the school year,” she affirmed, adding that the goal is for everyone to start “with everything they need, just like their peers.”
With this new call for applications, the City Council reinforces its support for equal opportunities in education, providing aid that has become a stable resource for Ursaonese families at the beginning of each school year.
