The Cornets and Drums Band of Expiración from Jaén will accompany the Nazareno of Écija in the Madrugá of 2027 and 2028, and the Cristo de la Bondad of Morón on Palm Sunday.

The Cornets and Drums Band of Expiración from Jaén has secured two agreements that consolidate its presence in the Sevilla cofrade calendar. The Jaén-based band will provide its music behind the Holy Christ of Goodness of the Borriquita Brotherhood of Morón on Palm Sunday 2027, and will also accompany Our Father Jesus Nazareno of Écija during the Madrugás of 2027 and 2028.

Morón changes band for Palm Sunday

The Borriquita Brotherhood of Morón has decided to embark on a new musical chapter. Until now, the sounds of the Amarrado de Ávila marked the procession of the Cristo de la Bondad, but from 2027, it will be the Expiración from Jaén that guides its path on the morning of Palm Sunday.

The band has expressed its gratitude to the Governing Board and the brothers for their warm welcome. “The countdown has begun,” they stated, aware of the responsibility that comes with opening the Morón Holy Week.

For the residents of Morón, this change represents a new sound in one of the most anticipated processions. The Borriquita departs at 11:00 from the Parish of San Ignacio de Loyola, and the cofrades will be able to enjoy a renewed repertoire.

The Madrugá of Écija will also feature Expiración

The second agreement places the Expiración from Jaén in the Madrugá of Écija, one of the most unique nights of the Andalusian Holy Week. The band will accompany Our Father Jesus Nazareno, the titular figure of the Nazareno Brotherhood, during the Madrugás of 2027 and 2028.

The band has emphasized that the metal of their cornets and the beat of their drums will join the silence and devotion of the Madrugá in Écija. This contract comes with a commitment to deliver and to work to meet the trust of the Brotherhood.

For the people of Écija, this addition provides an extra incentive. The Madrugá is one of the most emotional events on the cofrade calendar, and having a prestigious external band elevates the musical level of the procession.

Casariche left behind after signing with Bailén

The presence of the Expiración from Jaén in the province of Sevilla is not new. The band had already been performing on Good Friday behind the Holy Christ of Expiración of Casariche, a connection that kept them within the Sevilla calendar.

However, that contract has been terminated following the band's signing with the Piety Brotherhood of Bailén, in their own province. Thus, the Expiración from Jaén leaves Casariche behind to focus on new commitments in Morón and Écija.

For the cofrades of Casariche, this means searching for a new band for their Good Friday. The brotherhood is already working to find a formation that maintains the musical level of their penitential station.

The Holy Week of 2027 continues to shape an ever-expanding musical map, with brotherhoods looking beyond their usual surroundings. The Expiración from Jaén finds its place again in the province of Sevilla, and band enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting to hear their sounds at these two significant events.
