Tomares invests 845,000 euros in education for the 2026-27 school year

Tomares allocates 845,000 euros to education, up from 18,000 in 2007. Over 2,000 students return to school in the municipality's five schools.

The Town Hall of Tomares has increased its educational budget to 845,000 euros, compared to 18,000 in 2007. More than 2,000 students in Early Childhood and Primary have started the school year in the five centres of the municipality.

The schools in Tomares opened their doors this Thursday, September 10, with maintenance works already completed. In total, over 2,000 students in Early Childhood and Primary have begun classes in the five educational centres of the municipality: CEIP Tomás de Ybarra, CEIP Juan Ramón Jiménez, CEPR SAR Infanta Leonor, CEI El Carmen, and Colegio Al-Ándalus 2000 S.C.A..

The figure is divided among approximately 1,500 Primary students and 600 Early Childhood students, according to data provided by the Town Hall. The mayor, José María Soriano, and the councillor for Education, Gema Sánchez-Barriga de la Fuente, attended to welcome the students on the inaugural day.

The Town Hall has allocated 845,000 euros to education in 2026, a sum that is more than forty times the 18,000 euros from 2007. The local government justifies this effort by the need to maintain schools in good condition and to facilitate work-life balance for working families.

“More than 2,000 boys and girls in Early Childhood and Primary started classes yesterday in our municipality. The Town Hall has been working in recent weeks to prepare everything so that the schools were ready for this school year. I wish the entire educational community a magnificent year!”

The centres offer services such as speech therapists, caretakers, Early Childhood monitors, canteens, and school transport. Additionally, they provide sign language workshops and a co-education programme that covers from 4th grade of Primary to 4th year of Secondary Education, addressing issues such as equality, mental health, and bullying.

Improvement and maintenance works have been carried out during July and August, ensuring that the facilities were ready for the start of classes. The municipal investment is distributed among the five publicly funded centres in the locality.
