The Gines Town Hall and the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research are organising five days of conferences, workshops, cinema, and gastronomy. All activities will be free and will take place at the El Tronío theatre and the Citizen Participation Centre.
Gines will host a Cultural Week of Egypt from September 21 to 25, an initiative by the Culture delegation of the Gines Town Hall in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The programme includes conferences, workshops, screenings, poetry, cooking, and a crafts bazaar, with free entry for all audiences.
The inauguration will be on Monday 21 at 11:00 hours at the El Tronío theatre, featuring a conference by Dr. Abdelrahman Fahmy, affiliated with Cairo University, University of Cádiz, and the National Museums of Berlin. Following this, a documentary about the Grand Egyptian Museum will be screened.
On the same day, the Citizen Participation Centre (Plaza de España, 1) will host a hieroglyphic writing workshop. On Monday and Tuesday, an Egyptian crafts bazaar will be open in the same space.
Tuesday 22 will be dedicated to poetry and gastronomy. At 10:30 hours, the centre will host the activity “Poetry in Arab Culture,” featuring readings of poems by Salah Abdel Sabur. At 12:00 hours, the meeting “Egyptian Cuisine” will review the country’s culinary history, prepare a typical dish live, and conclude with a tasting for attendees.
On Wednesday 23, the focus will return to the El Tronío theatre from 10:30 hours with a cinema session: first a documentary about the history of Egyptian cinema, followed by a subtitled original version film.
On Thursday 24, activities will begin at 10:00 hours at El Tronío with a literary conference on the playwright and essayist Tawfik al Hakim, led by Dr. Saad Mohamed Saad (Pablo de Olavide University). At 11:15 hours, a documentary about Egyptian music will be screened.
The closing will be on Friday 25 at the Citizen Participation Centre, with a session on the Arabic language conducted from the headquarters of the Egyptian Institute in Madrid. At 11:00 hours, Dr. Hazem Eid (Cairo University) will conclude the programme with the lecture “Common Features of Arabic and Spanish.”
