The Sevillian municipality of Gines has concluded the first edition of the Cultural Week of Egypt, five free days organised with the Egyptian Institute and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the North African country.

The first edition of the Cultural Week of Egypt in Gines ended this Friday after five days of free activities dedicated to the culture of the North African country. The event brought together locals in two venues in the municipality: the theatre El Tronío and the Active Participation Centre.

The organisation was led by the Cultural delegation of the Gines Town Hall, along with the Egyptian Institute and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Egypt. The programme kicked off with proposals spread across both venues and was carried out at no cost to attendees.

The midpoint of the week, Wednesday, was entirely dedicated to cinema. The day began with the screening of a documentary about the history of the seventh art in Egypt and continued with a film in its original version with subtitles, as detailed by the organisers.

The following day, El Tronío hosted a literary conference on the Egyptian playwright and essayist Tawfik al Hakim. It was delivered by Dr. Saad Mohamed Saad from Pablo de Olavide University. After the talk, a documentary about Egyptian music was screened.

The closing took place this Friday at the Active Participation Centre. The final session consisted of a videoconference on the Arabic language broadcast from the headquarters of the Egyptian Institute in Madrid. In it, Dr. Hazem Eid from Cairo University discussed "The common characteristics of Arabic and Spanish."

With this first edition, Gines has brought its residents closer to some of the main artistic and cultural expressions of Egypt, one of the most prominent cultures in the Mediterranean arc. The activities were always held in municipal spaces and with free entry.

The Gines Town Hall has not yet announced whether there will be a second edition of the cultural week or the expected dates for a future event.
