The literary competition reaches its 22nd edition and aims to promote writing among students and residents. The submission period will be open until October 16.
The network of Municipal Public Libraries and the Culture department of the La Rinconada City Council have launched a new edition of the Gloria Fuertes Story and Poetry Competition, which this year celebrates its 22nd anniversary. The deadline for submitting works starts on September 16 and will remain open until October 16.
The call, aimed at promoting writing and reading at the local level, is open to people born or registered in the municipality, as well as those enrolled in any educational institution in the area. As in previous editions, there are two categories: story and poetry.
The Culture delegate, Raquel Vega, has highlighted that the competition focuses again on “local talent and the participation of students from the educational centres in the municipality.” Additionally, she framed this initiative within La Rinconada's candidacy to become a UNESCO Creative City of Literature, a project that will be complemented this autumn with other proposals such as Centroamérica Cuenta, Estación de las Letras, or the Almudena Grandes Competition.
The competition is structured into three categories: Children, for Primary school students; Youth, for Secondary and Baccalaureate students; and Adults, from 18 years old. The works must be original, unpublished, and written in Spanish, and they cannot have been published or awarded in other competitions previously.
The maximum length will be 15 pages for the story category and 100 verses for poetry. The jury, composed of members of the local reading clubs, will evaluate the originality, literary quality, grammatical correctness, and narrative or poetic coherence of the submitted works.
Participation applications can be submitted in person at the City Council registry or the corresponding deputy mayor's office, or through the Electronic Headquarters of the council, using the CUL-002 procedure, with the code SIA 3258935. The complete rules are available on the municipal website.
The First Deputy Mayor has emphasized the government's commitment to bringing culture closer to educational centres: “Our youth, their perspective, are fundamental to positioning La Rinconada at the forefront of culture.”
