The company Aura Flamenca is organising a free evening on August 12 at Parque El Majuelo in La Rinconada to observe the Perseids with live music.
La Rinconada is preparing for one of the most special nights of the summer. The artistic company Aura Flamenca has organised 'Perseids, an Inner Journey', a free experience that combines astronomical education and immersive music under the starry sky. The event will take place on next Wednesday, August 12 at Parque El Majuelo, starting at 23:30.
The activity, open to all ages, will take advantage of the maximum splendour of the Tears of Saint Lawrence. The director of Aura Flamenca, David Sálezmar, explained that the chosen location is the area furthest from the entrance, near the gnome sculptures, where "we find more darkness and tranquility to connect with the universe".
The evening will begin with an educational session in which, through a 15 square metre screen, the origin of the Perseids and their characteristics will be explained. Sálezmar emphasised that this night will be exceptional: "the most anticipated meteor shower of the year reaches its peak activity and the sky will remain especially dark due to the new moon, which will favour the observation of a greater number of meteors".
"This combination makes this night one of the best in the last decade to observe the Perseids, conditions that will not be repeated until 2034. It also coincides with the first total solar eclipse visible from the Iberian Peninsula in over a century," he added.
Starting at 00:00, all screens will be turned off to help attendees adjust their vision to the darkness. Then, a session of soft electronic music, inspired by the stars, will accompany the observation of the night sky throughout the early hours.
The Culture Delegate of the La Rinconada City Council, Raquel Vega, welcomed Sálezmar and Rafael Cano from Aura Flamenca to learn about the details of the project. Vega highlighted "the value of this proposal for its innovative nature" and praised the company "for representing a commitment to culture, talent, and the creation of different proposals".
"From the City Council, we continue to support initiatives that expand the cultural offerings of the municipality and invite people to experience different experiences. 'Perseids, an Inner Journey' brings together education, community, and enjoyment of the environment in a night that will undoubtedly be very special," she stated.
The organisation recommends attendees bring a reclining chair, picnic blanket, or any comfortable seat to lie down and enjoy the experience. The invitation is to disconnect from screens and dedicate a night to silently contemplating the sky, enveloped by music and one of the most fascinating natural spectacles of the summer.
