Estepa will light up its Christmas lights on Friday, November 6 at 20:00. Before that, at 18:30, thousands of children will launch a luminous message in Morse code from the Plaza del Carmen to send the word PEACE into space.
The Plaza del Carmen will be the scene of an unusual action for Christmas in Estepa. At 18:30 on Friday, November 6, participants will emit the letters of the word PEACE using flashlights in Morse code. The City Council of Estepa has presented the initiative, which is part of Estepa Light Christmas Mission 1.
The initiative has the collaboration of the Spanish Space Agency. The luminous message will be recorded from the air and then sent to this agency for transmission into space. Thousands of schoolchildren, families, and locals are expected to participate in the action.
As explained by the Mayor of Estepa, Antonio Jesús Muñoz, the intention is to bring the Christmas atmosphere forward to the beginning of November. The mayor points out that the lighting also supports local commerce and the nougat and polvorón sector, which is experiencing its peak activity during these weeks.
“Estepa is the City of Christmas and we want our streets to breathe that atmosphere that characterizes us as soon as possible.”
The official lighting is scheduled for around 20:00, when it will already be dark. This year, the Plaza del Carmen will feature a special light attraction. The Councillor for Celebrations, Manuel Rodríguez, has presented the day's programme alongside the mayor, which will include musical performances and activities for family enjoyment.
For those who wish to participate in the message action, it is recommended to come to the square at 18:30 with a flashlight. The rest of the afternoon will be dedicated to music and festive proposals, with the lighting as the central moment.
