Carlos Jiménez Juan has been proclaimed the XXIX Proclaimer of the Glorious Sorrows in La Rinconada. He will deliver the proclamation on September 14, as part of the Patronal Festivals.
The Chapel of the Brotherhood of Sorrows in La Rinconada hosted the proclamation of Carlos Jiménez Juan as the XXIX Proclaimer of the Glorious Sorrows. The temple was too small to accommodate the presence of brothers, confreres, and representatives of the brotherhoods in the municipality, who accompanied the proclaimer in one of the first events of the Patronal Festivals.
Alongside them were the parish priest, the elder brother of the Brotherhood of Sorrows, Ramón Perza, and the delegates for Major Festivals from the La Rinconada City Council, Rafael Reyes and Silvia Torres. The event was preceded by the signing of a collaboration agreement between the City Council and the Brotherhood to support the events and worship of the festivals.
Carlos Jiménez Juan faces the task with an evident personal and family burden. "I can proudly say that I grew up among these ancient walls that welcome us today," he acknowledged during his speech. His father recalled a journey of "thirty-five years" linked to Christian life and the chapel, emphasising continuity: "What matters is that commitment to Christian faith that you are passing on to your children."
The family participated in the handing over of the pastries that will hold the proclamation, symbolically bringing together three generations around the proclaimer. His parents and children were responsible for this gesture, reflecting the transmission of devotion from generation to generation.
In his first words as proclaimer, Jiménez Juan expressed his emotion and sense of responsibility: "I receive this appointment with immense emotion, but also with the responsibility that comes with giving voice to feelings that belong to an entire people." He summarised his starting point: "To speak of the Virgin of Sorrows is to speak of La Rinconada and its traditions and, above all, of the faith and devotion of so many generations who have found in Her comfort, hope, and shelter."
The proclaimer announced that his words on September 14 "must come from the heart" and aim to express "a small part" of what the Virgin means to him and to the people. He entrusted himself to the Patroness for his words to be "worthy of Her and of this town."
The delegate for Major Festivals, Rafael Reyes, conveyed municipal support: "It will be a pleasure to hear you, I am sure," he stated, highlighting "the firm pillars of your Christian faith" and his "deep dolorist feelings." He added: "All the affection from the La Rinconada City Council, which is your home, and all the encouragement to face the beautiful task of discoursing and giving voice to what the people of La Rinconada feel in this month of September."
The Brotherhood's calendar is already underway. Last Monday, August 31, the Greeting and descent of Our Lady of Sorrows took place, one of the images that herald the arrival of the grand days. The Dolorosa is already on her platform, ready for her transfer to the Parish of Our Lady of the Snows, and she is adorned with a new gown donated by a group of brothers, which is added to her trousseau as a debut for the Patronal Festivals.
On September 14, Carlos Jiménez Juan will take the podium as the XXIX Proclaimer of the Glorious Sorrows. The following day, La Rinconada will celebrate the feast of its Patroness, thus concluding days of devotion, reunion, and coexistence that, as Rafael Reyes recalled, are a "sign of identity" for the municipality.
