The Alzheimer Association of La Vega expands its offerings with personalised therapies, a care school and prevention programmes for those over 60 years old.
The Alzheimer Association of La Vega (AFA La Rinconada) has expanded its service portfolio at the Cognitive Stimulation Centre, with new personalised therapies for individuals with cognitive decline and their families. The organisation, with over a decade of experience, has become a benchmark in the province for the care of neurodegenerative diseases.
Among the new initiatives is the Care School, a free, in-person training programme featuring workshops led by professionals in psychology, nursing, physiotherapy, social work, and medicine. The aim is to reduce stress, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion for those caring for dependent individuals, providing them with practical tools and knowledge.
Prevention is also gaining importance. The ACTIVE MIND Classroom targets healthy individuals over 60 to train their minds and promote healthy habits during aging. Meanwhile, the STIMULATE programme is designed for individuals with early diagnosis or neurodegenerative prognosis, tailoring the work to each case to maintain their capabilities and autonomy.
For families, the Family Respite Service offers Care Stay, which supports the user during the absence of their loved ones, and a Specialised Treatment Unit for advanced stages. The association has also launched the ReCognitive programme, which personally addresses the cognitive aftermath of 'chemo fog' in cancer patients, helping to recover concentration, memory, and daily living skills.
Technology has been integrated into treatments through a cognitive rehabilitation system on computer support, supervised by specialists who adapt interventions to each user's progress. Founded in La Rinconada in 2009, the association also engages in awareness-raising, promotes volunteering, and collaborates in training future professionals through university internships.
