The initiative 'Dame el Búcaro' calls on around fifty creators to intervene the traditional clay vessel, which will serve as the support for works inspired by flamenco lyrics. The winning búcaro will be the image of the poster for the XLIII Flamenco Singing Festival El Búcaro.
The Town Hall of La Rinconada has launched a proposal that fuses contemporary art and flamenco in an unprecedented way. Under the name of 'Dame el Búcaro', the project will bring together about 50 artists from La Rinconada, the province of Seville, and other parts of Andalusia to intervene the emblematic clay búcaro, the vessel that gives its name to the Peña Cultural Flamenca El Búcaro.
The only condition for participants is that their creations revolve around flamenco lyrics, establishing a dialogue between contemporary creation and the literary heritage of Andalusia. Painting, sculpture, collage, ceramics, illustration, and mixed techniques will be included in this collective exhibition that will turn the búcaro into a unique artistic support.
The winning búcaro will be the festival's image
A jury specialised in flamenco and visual arts will select the winner búcaro, which will become the official image of the poster announcing the XLIII Flamenco Singing Festival El Búcaro. The chosen work will visually represent one of the most established flamenco events in Andalusia and will be the graphic identity of the festival throughout its communication campaign.
Additionally, the jury will select another twelve búcaros, which will be linked to the twelve flamenco artists featured in the festival's lineup. Each work will be associated with a performer, generating a joint campaign on social media and communication platforms that will put a visual artist in dialogue with a flamenco artist, fostering mutual knowledge of their trajectories and expanding the public projection of both.
A documentary catalogue and a commitment to continuity
As part of the project, a catalogue will be published that will include the forty pieces along with their authors, constituting the documentary testimony of this first edition of 'Dame el Búcaro' and the meeting between flamenco and contemporary art. The initiative is born with a commitment to continuity and aims to establish itself as an annual event where contemporary art dialogues with flamenco from a place of creative freedom and innovation.
The delegate for Culture, Raquel Vega, explained that “the initiative aims to demonstrate that flamenco continues to be a fully relevant source of inspiration for current artistic creation and that everyday objects from our tradition can acquire new meanings when reinterpreted through contemporary art.” She also added that “with this project, the Town Hall and Peña are opening a new space for collaboration between visual arts and flamenco, incorporating an unprecedented proposal into the festival's programming that turns artistic creation into a tool to strengthen cultural heritage, promote contemporary talent, and bring flamenco to new audiences.”
The proposal is integrated into the cultural strategy of La Rinconada, aligning with the municipality's candidacy for the UNESCO Creative Cities of Literature Network, reinforcing the relationship between visual arts, words, and cultural heritage. The residents of La Rinconada and visitors will be able to enjoy the collective exhibition during the festival, the dates of which will be announced soon. An opportunity to see how fifty different perspectives transform the same traditional object into unique pieces, demonstrating that flamenco remains an inexhaustible source of inspiration.
