Morón de la Frontera joins the third edition of PLAZES, the public art project of the Diputación de Sevilla. Utrera-born artist Rubén Guerrero will create an intervention in the municipality.
The artist Rubén Guerrero, born in Utrera in 1976, will develop a contemporary art intervention in Morón de la Frontera as part of the third edition of the PLAZES project, promoted by the Diputación de Sevilla. The initiative was presented today at the Casa de la Provincia, attended by the Culture delegate of Morón, Alfonso Luna, and the municipal Culture technician, Agustín Israel Barrera.
Guerrero, a graduate in Fine Arts from the University of Seville, has over two decades of experience focused on research into painting, its limits, and the construction of the image. His work has been exhibited in spaces such as the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (CAAC), the Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo, Matadero Madrid, the CAC Málaga, and the Patio Herreriano.
This year, his career has taken an international leap by being selected for the Meadows/ARCO Artist Spotlight programme at the Meadows Museum in Dallas, becoming the first Andalusian artist to achieve this. His work is part of collections such as the Pérez Art Museum in Miami, the Coca-Cola Foundation, DKV, Banco Sabadell, the Unicaja Foundation, and the Diputación de Sevilla itself.
The artist's territorial connection to the region influenced his selection for Morón. His origins in nearby Utrera mean that the intervention is not just the arrival of a prestigious name, but an opportunity for a creator with roots in the area to engage with the city, its identity, and its heritage.
With the inclusion of Morón, PLAZES 2026 will be present in 13 municipalities in Seville. The project aims to take contemporary art out of exhibition halls and into public spaces, so that residents can encounter it in the street and it becomes part of their daily lives.
For the City Council of Morón, having a work by Guerrero means expanding the cultural offerings of the locality and adding a top-level piece to its artistic heritage. The intervention will take place soon, although the exact location and date have yet to be determined.
