The Sierra Sur Boxing Club inaugurated its new gym on Thursday in the Sierra Sur Industrial Park, featuring a regulation ring and more space for the practice of this sport.
The Sierra Sur Boxing Club officially opened its new facilities on Thursday in Estepa, on Alfajor Street in the Sierra Sur Industrial Park. The event was attended by the mayor, Antonio Jesús Muñoz, and the sports councillor, Ana González Galindo.
The club's project began years ago with coach Brian Colmenares at the helm. Later, José Gamito, Juan José Rodríguez, and Abrahan Rodríguez took over, and in January 2025, the new Sierra Sur Boxing Club was officially established, later joined by María Rodríguez Capitán.
The new facilities represent a qualitative leap for the entity: they feature more space for boxing and gymnastics and a regulation ring. This equipment opens the door to hosting future boxing events in Estepa, providing an opportunity to bring this sport closer to the locals and showcase local talent.
One of the club's standout names is José Gamito, nicknamed “The Diamond”, a professional boxer who has already achieved the titles of Champion of Extremadura and Latin Continental Champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC). Gamito now faces new challenges under the guidance of Boris Heredia, from the Málaga-based Saga Heredia, considered a breeding ground for Andalusian boxers.
The Estepa City Council has congratulated the club on this new stage and wished them success: “May the bell ring soon and Estepa experience great boxing nights again,” they stated in a press release.
