The municipal transport company and the Junta de Andalucía join forces to promote blood donations during the summer months, a critical time for the reserves of the Regional Blood Transfusion Centre.
The municipal transport company of Seville, Tussam, has launched a new awareness campaign to encourage blood donations during the summer, a time when the reserves of the Regional Blood Transfusion Centre tend to decrease significantly. The initiative, titled “Tussam moves with you to save lives #Donasangre”, will be carried out on the company’s fleet of buses and its digital channels.
The delegate for Mobility and president of Tussam, Álvaro Pimentel, and the territorial delegate for Health and Consumption of the Junta de Andalucía, Silvia Pozo, have signed a collaboration agreement to promote this charitable action. The agreement includes the dissemination of the campaign both on vehicles and on the social media, website, and mobile app of the public company.
The campaign graphics show a map of Seville with various routes symbolising the paths of Tussam lines. These routes converge on the name of a person who donates or needs a donation, represented by a full or empty drop of blood. The aim is to visualise how the bus network connects citizens with solidarity.
During the signing of the agreement, Álvaro Pimentel highlighted that “Tussam not only connects thousands of Sevillians with their destinations every day, but also wants to connect the city with the causes that matter most.” The councillor emphasised the social commitment of the public company, which goes beyond transport services. “Once again this summer, we take advantage of our buses' capacity to reach all neighbourhoods and also turn them into a channel of awareness and solidarity for the benefit of Seville,” he added.
Pimentel called on citizens to participate in the initiative, reminding them that “summer is one of the most delicate periods for blood banks because donations decline while hospital needs remain.” According to data from the Regional Blood Transfusion Centre, during the summer months, reserves can drop by up to 30%, putting at risk the care of patients with chronic illnesses, surgical interventions, or emergencies.
Donating blood is a simple gesture that takes just a few minutes but can save up to three lives. The Seville City Council encourages all Sevillians to take that step and help ensure that no patient is left without the blood they need. Donations can be made at fixed points of the Regional Blood Transfusion Centre, as well as at mobile units that travel throughout the province.
The Tussam campaign adds to other initiatives being carried out in the city to alleviate the shortage of donations in summer. Last year, the municipal company already collaborated on a similar action, achieving an increase in donations during July and August. This time, it is hoped that the visibility of the buses, which circulate through all districts, will help raise awareness among a larger number of people.
Those interested in donating blood can find information on the website of the Regional Blood Transfusion Centre or in the Tussam app, where information about nearby donation points will be included. The campaign will be active throughout the summer, with special emphasis on the central weeks of July and August.
