Nearly a hundred rowers from five Seville clubs will participate this Wednesday in the 10th Night Rowing Regatta of Triana, which will illuminate the Guadalquivir between the Triana and San Telmo bridges.
The Guadalquivir River will once again be the stage tonight for one of the most anticipated events of the summer in Seville: the 10th Night Rowing Regatta of Triana, part of the programming of the Velá of the neighbourhood. A total of 26 boats and nearly a hundred athletes will gather from 21:00 hours in a regatta course located between the Triana and San Telmo bridges, right in front of Calle Betis.
The competition, organised by the Andalusian Rowing Federation in collaboration with the Municipal Board of the Triana District and the Municipal Sports Institute, will bring together five clubs from the city: C.D. Remeros y Piragüistas Veteranos de Sevilla, Club Remo San Jerónimo, Club de Remo Guadalquivir 86, Club Náutico Sevilla, and Real Círculo Labradores de Sevilla. All of them will compete in the yole category with a helmsman.
A Spectacle of Light and Sport on the Guadalquivir
The regatta, also known as Triana Rowing Night, will be contested in two categories: absolute and veteran, with male, female, and mixed participation. The latter will be exclusive to the Master category. The course consists of 150 meters that the boats must cover twice, including a turn or ciaboga, which adds excitement and technical demand.
The programme includes a total of 13 heats that will last until approximately 23:30 hours. The boats will compete in pairs in direct confrontations, and the podiums will be determined based on the recorded times. This format, according to the organisers, ensures an attractive dynamic and a high level of competition.
To allow the public to follow the competition from different points along the river — such as Calle Betis, Paseo Marqués de Contadero, Muelle de la Sal, and the nearby bridges — all boats will be equipped with LED lights. This lighting not only enhances visibility but also transforms the event into a unique visual spectacle, especially appealing in its night edition.
A Classic of the Seville Summer
The Night Regatta of Triana has established itself as a classic in the calendar of Andalusian rowing. Every summer, the event attracts numerous enthusiasts who gather on the banks of the Guadalquivir to enjoy a combination of sport, culture, and festive atmosphere. For the residents of Triana and the rest of Seville, the regatta is much more than a competition: it is a perfect excuse to stroll along the river, have a drink on the terraces of Calle Betis, and be amazed by the spectacle of illuminated boats gliding across the water.
The Velá de Triana, which this year celebrates its 20th edition, offers a varied programme that includes concerts, children's activities, and, of course, the traditional municipal tent. The night regatta is undoubtedly one of its highlights, and the organisers hope for good weather so that the public can enjoy it to the fullest. As a note, who knows if a veteran rower might not be encouraged to perform the ciaboga with more style than a sevillanas dancer, albeit with the same flair.
