Seville activates a special operation for the Velá de Santiago and Santa Ana, which will be held from July 21 to 26. Works on Calle Castilla require modifications to the direction of several streets. Betis and Altozano will be closed to traffic.
The City Council of Seville has presented the special operation for the Velá de Santiago and Santa Ana 2026, which will take place from July 21 to 26 in the Triana neighbourhood. The plan includes traffic restrictions, enhanced cleaning, and a programme with new features such as a salon bullfighting exhibition. The paving works on Calle Castilla will affect mobility in the area this year.
Traffic restrictions and changes in circulation
The Special Mobility Plan will come into effect on Tuesday, July 21 at 5:00 PM and will remain in place until 6:00 AM on Monday, July 27. Calle Betis and Plaza del Altozano will be closed to general traffic from that time on the first day, and from 6:00 PM on the other days until 6:00 AM. Turning towards the Isabel II Bridge from Paseo Colón and Arjona will also be prohibited.
Due to the works on Calle Castilla, the directions of two streets will be temporarily modified: San Jorge will now head towards Antillano Campos, and Antillano Campos will allow traffic towards Pagés del Corro. The closures will also affect parking on streets such as Alfarería, Torrijos, or Pureza.
Access to the restricted area will be reserved for accredited residents, users of the Triana Market parking, and loading and unloading vehicles, which will only be allowed to operate between 6:00 AM and 1:30 PM. During the festival, the circulation of bicycles and scooters will be prohibited in the pedestrian area, and the bike rental service on Calle Betis will be removed.
Programme of the Velá: proclamation, cucaña, and fireworks
The Velá will officially kick off on Tuesday with the proclamation by historian Jesús Pozuelo in Plaza del Altozano. Every afternoon, between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM, the traditional Cucaña will be held at the zapata of Calle Betis.
One of the new features this year is the salon bullfighting exhibition organised by the Tomás Campuzano Bullfighting School, scheduled for the morning of Wednesday, July 26, in the pedestrian section of Calle San Jacinto. On the same day, the feast of Santa Ana, the Trianeros de Honor awards will be presented at 10:00 PM, followed by a fireworks display at midnight.
Security, booth hours, and cleaning
The booths will open at 8:00 PM and close at 3:00 AM, except on July 23, 24, and 25, when they may remain open until 4:00 AM. Music and beverage service must end half an hour before closing to facilitate evacuation. Local Police and Firefighters will supervise compliance with the schedules.
Lipasam will deploy an operation with 82 workers and 38 vehicles. Waste collection will be carried out door-to-door with selective collection of glass, paper, cardboard, and oil. Rubbish from the residual fraction must be placed in closed bags at the entrance of the booths. Additionally, a booth will be installed to conceal the reinforcement containers next to the space of the former Police Station.
The City Council has launched an informative campaign to promote civility and reminds the public of the prohibition on urinating or leaving waste in public spaces. Residents of Triana and visitors should pay attention to traffic signs and the instructions of agents to avoid penalties.
