Emasesa will replace 100 metres of pipe in Plaza del Duque de la Victoria starting next Monday. The investment amounts to €66,550 and the work will last six weeks.
The City Council of Seville, through the metropolitan company Emasesa, will begin on Monday, July 27, the works to replace the supply network in the central Plaza del Duque de la Victoria. This action responds to the need for conservation of the hydraulic infrastructure and will last for six weeks, until the end of August.
The intervention includes the renewal of approximately one hundred metres of 200-millimetre diameter pipe. The current cast iron pipeline will be replaced by a new ductile iron network, a material that offers greater guarantees of durability and efficiency. Additionally, three connections, a drinking water intake, and the necessary elements for the proper operation and maintenance of the network will be installed.
The budget allocated for this work amounts to €66,550, including VAT. According to municipal sources, the aim is to improve the service conditions of the supply network, strengthen its reliability, and prevent future incidents in the water supply in one of the busiest areas of the capital of Seville.
The planned work includes the demolition and subsequent restoration of the affected pavement, which will be returned to its original state once the work is completed. This way, the visual and functional impact on the square will be minimised once the intervention is finished.
Traffic disruptions and mobility plan
During the development of the work, there will be partial disruptions to vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the vicinity of Plaza del Duque. From July 27 until August 30, the western side of the square, corresponding to the façade of the shopping centre, will be completely closed to vehicular traffic. To access the area, an alternative route will be established via Teniente Borges, exiting through Alfonso XII and/or Campana. The works will be carried out in such a way that there will always be one lane free for circulation in the rest of the square.
Since this lane does not allow the circulation of large vehicles, the logistics work of the shopping centre will be carried out from Wednesday, July 22, until August 30, during night hours, from 11:00 PM to 4:00 AM, from Alfonso XII street, which will be temporarily closed to traffic during that time. To do this, traffic will be diverted using signallers and marking through O’Donnell and Plaza de la Magdalena.
Emasesa has assured that it will take the necessary measures to guarantee safety and minimise inconvenience to residents, merchants, and visitors to the area. The intervention is part of the continuous improvement plan for the city's hydraulic infrastructures, aimed at providing a higher quality service and preventing future breakdowns.
Residents and merchants in the area should be attentive to traffic closures and diversions over the coming weeks. It is recommended to plan trips in advance and, where possible, opt for public transport or alternative routes to avoid delays.
