The City Council of Seville distributed backpacks with school supplies to children from families in social emergency on Thursday. The delivery took place at the Hogar Virgen de los Reyes and was led by the mayor, José Luis Sanz.
The recipients are boys and girls enrolled in the 2026-2027 school year whose families receive assistance from municipal social services. The Equípate program has a budget of 110,000 euros.
According to data from the City Council, over 8,000 backpacks have been made available for students from all districts of the city in these three years. Each lot includes a blue backpack and basic classroom supplies: A4 and A5 notebooks, a pack of sheets, pencils, pens, erasers, sharpeners, a box of coloured pencils, crayons, markers, scissors, and glue sticks.
The mayor highlighted the expansion of the program, which previously only operated in the Southern district and now reaches all Social Work Units in Seville.
"Equípate is one of the programs that best reflects the change in direction driven by this government team: when we arrived at the City Council, this aid was only provided in the Southern district. Today it reaches all districts of the city, to all Social Work Units, to every corner of Seville," emphasized Sanz.
The mayor insisted that families from priority attention neighbourhoods have the same rights and positioned social care as one of the priorities of the mandate.
"With Equípate, we continue to ensure that no child in Seville starts the school year without the materials they need to learn. It is a commitment from this City Council to the most vulnerable families in our city: to reduce their financial burden and ensure equal opportunities from the very first day of class," concluded Sanz.
Families in need of this assistance should contact their reference Social Work Unit, where the assessment of the social emergency situation is processed. The distribution remains active in preparation for the start of the next school year.
