Sevilla FC is working on bringing in an experienced goalkeeper to be the backup for Vlachodimos, which would relegate Alberto Flores to third place. The club is considering renewing the homegrown player and loaning him out without a purchase option.

The sporting plan for Sevilla FC for the upcoming season involves strengthening the goalkeeping position with an experienced profile. This has been requested by coach Luis García Plaza, who wants a reliable second goalkeeper to cover for Odysseas Vlachodimos. This decision leaves the future of Alberto Flores, the young 22-year-old goalkeeper who until now was the natural alternative, up in the air.

The Nervionense club has already secured Vlachodimos' continuity through a new loan from Newcastle, but the goalkeeping position is not closed. The intention is to sign a goalkeeper with experience at the elite level who can take on the immediate backup role. This would mean a change of plans for Alberto Flores, who aspired to have more prominence following Ørjan Nyland's departure.

Alberto Flores, to third place

With the arrival of a new goalkeeper, Alberto Flores would become the third goalkeeper, drastically reducing his chances of playing. The Sevilla native, who came through the youth academy, has a contract for one more season and the club wants to protect him as a future asset. Therefore, the roadmap involves renewing his contract before seeking a loan.

The preferred option for Sevilla is a loan without a purchase option, a scenario that was already considered last summer. Alberto Flores received offers from both LaLiga Hypermotion and Primera Federación, but chose to stay. Last season he alternated between the first team, where he was the third goalkeeper, and Sevilla Atlético, where he even became captain.

The sporting director, José Ignacio Navarro, acknowledged that the club is open to listening to the player's needs.

"At the moment he is helping us, but we will not close the door on his requests, which I imagine will be to have minutes," he assured.

The goalkeeping position, a non-immediate priority

Although the search for a new goalkeeper is underway, Sevilla FC does not consider it urgent. The priority now is to finalize the departures of players like Akor Adams or Tanguy Nianzou to relieve the wage bill and be able to register new signings. Only after these sales occur will new pieces be incorporated, including the goalkeeper that Luis García Plaza is requesting.

This situation creates uncertainty around Alberto Flores, who needs to find a destination where he can have regular playing time to continue growing. The Spanish Segunda División presents itself as an ideal option for him to accumulate minutes and consolidate before returning to Sánchez-Pizjuán. The club will consider all proposals that guarantee him a prominent role.

For Sevilla fans, the goalkeeping position remains a headache. With Vlachodimos as the starter and a possible veteran signing, the youth academy is being sidelined. We will have to wait for the market to move to see if Alberto Flores will have minutes away from Nervión or remain in the shadows.
