Sevilla FC has finalised the signing of Julio Díaz from Romo, a 21-year-old left-back from Atlético de Madrid, with a contract linking him to the club until 30 June 2031.
Sevilla FC announced on Tuesday the addition of left-back Julio Díaz from Romo, 21, who arrives from Atlético de Madrid and signs a contract that binds him to the Seville club until 30 June 2031. The player, born in San Fernando de Henares (Madrid) on 10 January 2005, has been developed in the Atlético academy since he was 13, when he joined from Rayo Vallecano.
According to the club's statement, Díaz progressed through the youth ranks of Atlético until making his debut with the youth team A in the Honour Division in the 2021-22 season, at just 16 years old. In the 2024-25 season, he moved up to Atlético Madrileño, the red-and-white reserve team in the Primera Federación, where he played 32 matches and scored two goals. Last season, already established in the reserve team, he played 26 matches in the same category, 24 of them as a starter, becoming a key player for the team.
His performance opened the doors to the first team of Atlético de Madrid. Diego Pablo Simeone gave him his debut on 28 February at Carlos Tartiere against Real Oviedo, and by the end of the season, he had played four matches in LaLiga EA Sports, providing one assist. That assist came at Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, in the Atlético's 2-1 defeat against Sevilla FC, a detail that did not go unnoticed by the sporting management in Nervión.
Julio Díaz has been an international with Spain at youth levels since under-18. In the summer of 2024, he became the under-19 European champion in Northern Ireland, providing the assist for the final pass in extra time against Italy and starting in the final against France. A year later, he played in the under-20 World Cup in Chile under Paco Gallardo, being a starter in all final phase matches until Spain's elimination in the quarter-finals against Colombia.
With this signing, Sevilla FC strengthens the left-back position, which has been a focus of attention in recent transfer markets. The club is betting on a young player with potential, who already knows the Sánchez-Pizjuán and arrives with experience competing in the First Division and in international tournaments with the national team. The contract until 2031 reflects the club's confidence in his long-term development.
Díaz will join Sevilla FC's pre-season in the coming days, awaiting his official presentation and medical examination. The club has not disclosed the financial details of the transfer, although close sources indicate a deal around three million euros plus variables. The player is excited about the new project and hopes to earn a place in the starting eleven of his new coach.
