Sevilla FC has officially announced the transfer of Julio Díaz, a 21-year-old left-back from Atlético de Madrid, who has signed until 2031. He is the fifth reinforcement for the upcoming season.
Sevilla FC announced on Wednesday the signing of left-back Julio Díaz from Romo, aged 21, from Atlético de Madrid. The player has signed a contract that links him to the Nervion club until June 30, 2031, according to an official statement from the club. This is the fifth reinforcement for Sevilla for the 2026/27 season, following the signings of Guridi, Juan Iglesias, Sangante, and Odysseas.
Julio Díaz, born in San Fernando de Henares on January 10, 2005, was trained in the youth categories of Rayo Vallecano before joining Atlético de Madrid's academy at the age of 13. His progression was rapid: in the 2021/22 season, at just 16 years old, he made his debut with the Juvenil A in the División de Honor. Two years later, in the 2024/25 season, he made the jump to Atlético Madrileño, the red-and-white reserve team in Primera Federación, where he played 32 matches and scored two goals.
In the last season, 2025/26, he established himself as one of the standout players of the reserve team, with 26 appearances in Primera Federación, 24 of them as a starter. His performance opened the doors to the first team, and coach Diego Simeone gave him his debut on February 28 at Carlos Tartiere against Real Oviedo. Until the end of the season, Julio Díaz added four matches in LaLiga EA Sports, in which he provided one assist. Notably, that assist came at Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, in Atlético's 2-1 defeat against Sevilla.
The new Sevilla player has been an international with Spain at youth levels since under-18. In the summer of 2024, he became the under-19 European champion in Northern Ireland, providing the assist for the final pass in extra time against Italy and starting in the final against France. A year later, he played in the under-20 World Cup in Chile, where he was a starter in all the final phase matches until Spain's elimination in the quarter-finals against Colombia.
With the arrival of Julio Díaz, Sevilla's squad now has four left-backs: Suazo, Oso, Pedrosa, and Díaz himself. However, it is expected that only the Chilean and the newly signed player will remain. Oso is still negotiating his renewal without an agreement, while Pedrosa, a former Espanyol player, is seeking an exit. The sporting management, led by Víctor Orta, is now focusing its efforts on signing a forward, although the incorporation of goalkeeper Fran González, an under-21 international, is also on the horizon.
Sevilla FC wanted to strengthen the left-back position with a young and promising player who already knows Sánchez-Pizjuán and has demonstrated his ability in professional football. The Sevilla fans hope that Julio Díaz can compete for a starting position and provide depth to a position that has been a subject of debate in recent seasons.
