Seville City Council has ordered the precautionary closure of Rosaleda Park, in the San Pablo-Santa Justa district, after locating several pieces of sausages with hidden needles. The measure aims to protect animals and people from the risk of injury.
Rosaleda Park, one of the busiest green spaces in the San Pablo-Santa Justa district, has been temporarily closed after several pieces of sausages containing needles were found inside. The discovery, made over the past weekend, has triggered a municipal investigation to identify those responsible and assess the extent of the threat.
District sources have confirmed that the decision was made as a preventive measure, given the evident risk these objects pose to companion animals frequenting the dog recreation area and to the citizens passing through the premises. The facilities will remain closed until a thorough inspection of the entire park is completed.
This is not the first time users of Rosaleda Park have faced a similar situation. In May 2023, local residents reported the repeated presence of food items with needles, pins, nails, and other sharp objects, seemingly thrown intentionally. On that occasion, residents pointed out that the food appeared both inside and outside the dog park, making the area a danger to any living being.
Those incidents were formally reported to the police for a possible crime against animals, as defined in article 340 bis of the Penal Code. Penalties for such conduct can range from three to eighteen months in prison, in addition to significant financial fines for those responsible.
The affected individuals then initiated a petition to protest what they considered a persecution of pet owners. In a statement sent to this newspaper, they claimed to strictly respect the schedules and coexistence rules of the area, and denounced that some neighbours were using dangerous methods to dissuade them from using the space.
The closure of Rosaleda Park adds to the one that occurred on July 8 in the children’s and dog park between Manuel Olivencia and Faustino Gutiérrez streets, in Sevilla Este. On that occasion, the closure was decreed after the presence of poison unrelated to the municipal rat control plan and altered chocolates was detected, posing a direct risk to children and pets.
So far, authorities have not confirmed whether the two incidents are related. The investigation remains open, and it is expected that more information about what happened will be provided in the coming days.
The City Council has apologised to residents for any inconvenience this measure may cause, but has emphasised that the absolute priority is to ensure public safety. In the meantime, citizens are advised to exercise extreme caution and avoid the area until further notice.
