Aemet has issued orange alerts for this Wednesday in Córdoba, Granada, and Jaén for 40 degrees, while Seville will be at yellow level with maximums of 39 degrees in the countryside.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated a high-temperature alert system for this Wednesday affecting several Andalusian provinces, particularly Córdoba, Granada, and Jaén, where temperatures are expected to reach up to 40 degrees. In the province of Seville, the alert will be at yellow level in the countryside, with temperatures potentially reaching 39 degrees and, locally, rising by another degree.
According to information provided by Aemet, the Córdoba regions of the countryside, the Genil Basin in Granada, and the Jaén areas of Morena and Condado, Cazorla, and Segura, as well as the Guadalquivir Valley in Jaén, will be under orange alert between 1:00 PM and 9:00 PM. In these areas, the mercury will reach 40 degrees, posing a significant risk to the population.
In the case of Seville, the yellow alert is concentrated in the Sevillian countryside, an area that includes municipalities such as Écija, Marchena, or Osuna. The maximum temperatures expected are 39 degrees, although they could be exceeded locally. The rest of the province, including the capital, is not under alert, although caution is advised due to the intense heat.
Aemet has also activated yellow alerts in other areas of Andalusia, such as Sierra and Pedroches and the Córdoba Subbética, as well as in Guadix and Baza (Granada), where maximums will hover around 38 degrees. In total, six Andalusian regions will be under some type of alert during Wednesday.
The sky will be mostly clear or slightly cloudy in most of the region, with intervals of low clouds along the coasts and the presence of suspended dust in the Mediterranean coastline. Nighttime temperatures will rise in the eastern third and slightly decrease in the rest, while maximums will drop in the western third and either rise slightly or remain unchanged in the rest.
The winds will be light and variable, with no significant gusts expected. This intense heat situation is part of a high-temperature episode affecting much of the peninsula, although Andalusia is one of the hardest-hit areas.
For residents of the province of Seville, especially those living in the countryside, it is recommended to avoid sun exposure during the central hours of the day, hydrate frequently, and pay special attention to the elderly and children. Health authorities remind that extreme heat can cause heat strokes and worsen chronic illnesses.
This alert comes in the middle of summer, when temperatures are usually high, but Aemet insists on taking precautions during episodes of intense heat. In previous years, similar heatwaves have led to an increase in hospital emergencies in the province.
The situation is expected to improve from Thursday, when temperatures may drop slightly, although they will still remain above 35 degrees in large areas of the community. Aemet will continue to update its forecasts throughout the day.
