Aemet has issued a yellow alert for high temperatures in the province of Seville this Thursday, where temperatures are expected to reach up to 39 degrees, which could locally rise to 40. Meanwhile, six Andalusian provinces are on orange alert.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated a yellow alert for high temperatures in large areas of the province of Seville this Thursday. According to the forecast, thermometers will reach 39 degrees in the Sierra Norte, Sierra Sur, and the countryside of Seville, although locally they could rise by another degree, nearing 40.
The capital of Seville and the rest of the province are not exempt from the heat, although the alert focuses on the aforementioned regions. The alert will be in effect between 1:00 PM and 9:00 PM, the hottest part of the day.
Meanwhile, six Andalusian provinces—Almería, Cádiz, Córdoba, Granada, Jaén, and Málaga—are under an orange alert, with maximum temperatures that could reach 42 degrees in some areas. Huelva is the only Andalusian province without any active alert.
Specifically, in the province of Cádiz, the areas of Grazalema and Jimena de la Frontera will be on orange alert for 41 degrees. In Málaga, the Sol and Guadalhorce regions will reach 42 degrees inland. In Almería, the regions of the Almanzora Valley, Los Vélez, Nacimiento, and Campo de Tabernas are also on orange alert.
Additionally, Aemet has issued a yellow alert for storms in the Almanzora Valley and Los Vélez (Almería) between 4:00 PM and 9:00 PM, which could be accompanied by hail and very strong gusts of wind.
For this Thursday, mostly clear or slightly cloudy skies are expected across most of Andalusia, with intervals of low morning clouds along the Almeria coast and daytime evolving clouds in the northeast. Storms are not ruled out in the easternmost part in the afternoon, with possible hail and suspended dust.
Minimum temperatures are expected to change little, while maximum temperatures will decrease on the Atlantic side and increase on the Mediterranean side, with locally notable rises in the easternmost part. Winds will be light and variable, with moderate intervals from the west in the afternoon.
In light of this situation, Civil Protection recommends avoiding sun exposure during the hottest hours of the day, drinking plenty of water, wearing light and light-coloured clothing, and paying special attention to the elderly, children, and people with chronic illnesses. It is also advised not to leave anyone in parked vehicles and to keep homes cool.
Aemet reminds that the yellow alert implies a meteorological risk for outdoor activities, although it is not exceptional. For the people of Seville, the recommendation is to take extra precautions and to follow the evolution of the forecasts.
