Nazarenos magazine has organised a vote among journalists and brotherhood analysts to choose the best of Holy Week. El Gran Poder, Cachorro and Pasión top the podium of images of Jesus, while Macarena, Amargura and Virgen del Valle are the most valued dolorosas.
Nazarenos magazine has carried out a unique initiative: bringing together a group of journalists and analysts specialised in the brotherhood world to vote, in a 'Eurovision of Holy Week' style, on the highlights of the Sevillian Passion. The result, far from being surprising, confirms the dominance of the classic and the eternal in the brotherhood imagery, above the more recent trends.
In the category of images of Jesus, El Gran Poder takes first place, followed by Cachorro and Pasión. In the dolorosas section, Macarena occupies the top spot, with Amargura and Virgen del Valle completing the podium. These results reflect a preference for the most rooted and traditional devotions of the city.
As for pasos and mysteries, the mystery of Quinta Angustia has been the most voted, while the paso of El Gran Poder and the palio of Amargura have also received the highest distinctions. The most valued brotherhoods as a whole have been Silencio, Calvario and Amargura, three brotherhoods that embody the essence of Sevillian Holy Week.
The most outstanding crown of thorns, according to the vote, is that of Amargura, and the most valued mantle is that of Virgen del Socorro. In the musical sphere, the cornets of the Cigarreras have been the favourites, while in musical groups, Virgen de los Reyes triumphs, and in music bands, Tejera.
The groups of costaleros have also received recognition: the best Christ group is that of Desprecio de Herodes, and the best palio group is that of Esperanza de Triana. According to the organisers, this data corroborates that, despite the emergence of new trends and brotherhoods, what still prevails is the usual, the classic and the eternal.
The voting has been conducted by a panel of experts who, according to the magazine, are close to the daily life of the brotherhoods and possess a level that validates the validity of their criteria. The initiative has generated great interest among the brotherhood members, who see in these results a reflection of popular devotion and tradition.
