The Estadio de La Cartuja hosted the sixth edition of La Velada del Año this Saturday, with over 80,000 attendees. Colombian La Parce took home the first belt of the night.
The Estadio de La Cartuja once again became the epicentre of global streaming. The sixth edition of La Velada del Año, organised by Ibai Llanos, brought together more than 80,000 spectators at the Seville venue, which hosted this boxing event between content creators for the second consecutive year.
The night began with the entrance of the 20 boxers, who had completed over six months of preparation. The first fight pitted Fabiana Sevillano against La Parce. The Sevillian, who entered to the rhythm of 'El Galileo' performed by the Virgen de los Reyes, started strong, but the Colombian came back and claimed the first belt of the evening.
The second duel featured Natalia MX and Clersss. Despite the apparent equality, the jury unanimously voted in favour of the Mexican. "Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but I had a great time," declared the Catalan after her defeat.
The first musical break was provided by Juanes, who, along with Yami Safdie, performed hits like 'A Dios le pido', 'Me enamora', and 'La camisa negra'. "There’s nothing better than being here face to face with you living in the moment!" said the Colombian singer.
One of the most anticipated moments was the duel between Argentine Gastón Edul and Spaniard Edu Aguirre. The audience at La Cartuja showed their support for Aguirre, who entered with the duo Taburete and a replica of the World Cup. After a closely contested fight, the Spaniard emerged victorious, with the stadium chanting "World Champions!" Edul, on the other hand, received boos, but Aguirre wanted to downplay it: "This is just rivalry, this is just sport, long live Argentina, long live Spain."
The women’s fight between Tatiana Kaer and Marta Díaz had an emotional moment when the latter appeared accompanied by her siblings, one of whom had never been shown publicly before. Marta declared herself the winner and confessed: "Only my family, my team, and I know how hard it has been to get here."
Anuel AA entertained the intermission with songs like 'Sola' and 'Amanece', before the fifth fight, the only one without a protective helmet. ByViruzz and Gero Arias, who entered with Paulo Londra, featured in an intense duel that ended with the Argentine's victory, who even managed to knock his opponent out of the ring on one occasion.
The evening also paid tribute to Gaspi, a boxer who passed away weeks ago and participated in the previous edition in Seville. Ibai, the mother and brother of the Argentine climbed into the ring to honour him, and the stadium observed a minute of silence that ended with everyone chanting his name.
At the time of closing this edition, there were still fights to be contested: Alondrissa vs Angie Velasco, Lit Killah vs Kidd Keo, Samy Rivers vs Roro, YoSoyPlex vs Fernanfloo, and IlloJuan vs TheGrefg. But beyond the results, the great triumph was for Seville, whose name appeared for hours on millions of screens around the world. La Cartuja once again demonstrated its capacity to host major events, and the Andalusian capital established itself as an international showcase.
