Direct exit to the A-49 from Seville closed for three consecutive nights due to works

The A-49 viaduct at the height of Seville will remain closed to traffic from tonight until Tuesday, 28 July, from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, due to maintenance work. The City Council has designed alternative routes to minimise disruption.

Drivers using the A-49 to exit Seville towards Huelva, Mérida or Cádiz will encounter a complete traffic closure for three consecutive nights. The affected section is the viaduct located between the junction with the SE-30 and the José Moya Sanabria roundabout, a stretch of just over a kilometre that will remain closed from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM from tonight until Tuesday, 28 July.

The maintenance work is being carried out by the State Roads Demarcation in Western Andalusia, as reported by the City Council of Seville. The municipal authority has established several alternative routes to facilitate traffic during the night closures.

For drivers coming from the north of the city or from the Isla de la Cartuja, the recommended route is Avenida Carlos III, passing through the underpass of the SE-30 to the roundabout of the School of Engineers. From there, they can join the designated detours towards the A-49.

Those coming from the south or travelling on the SE-30 should take the Muro de Defensa road, which runs parallel to the Guadalquivir River, until connecting with the open branches of the A-49 or the exit towards Camas.

For through traffic, especially vehicles coming from the south of the province heading to Huelva or Mérida, the most effective option is to use the outer ring road SE-40 and link up with the SE-30 towards La Algaba or Camas, before joining the A-49 from the northern junction. This way, they can avoid the Patrocinio area, where usual traffic jams occur.

The City Council recommends that drivers plan their journeys in advance, consult alternative routes, and exercise caution when driving in areas adjacent to the works. The work is part of the periodic maintenance plan for the state road network, aimed at ensuring road safety and extending the lifespan of the infrastructure.

The closure affects one of the main exit routes from the capital of Seville to the west, used daily by thousands of vehicles. During the day, traffic will continue as normal, but at night drivers will need to divert via the marked alternative routes.

This is not the first time maintenance work has been carried out on this section of the A-49. In recent years, several reinforcement and signage renewal actions have been undertaken, although night closures are usually the least intrusive solution to minimise the impact on mobility.

Residents of nearby neighbourhoods, such as those in the Patrocinio area and Cartuja, should pay special attention to the detours, as the closure also affects local access. The City Council has installed temporary signage and deployed mobility agents at critical points during the early hours of each closure.

The works will conclude on Tuesday, 28 July at 6:00 AM, at which point normal traffic will resume on the viaduct. In the meantime, drivers are advised to use real-time navigation apps to avoid delays.
